Painted Mandela Stone

Want to make a Mandela stone as pretty and intricate as this one? Look no further!! It's super easy, and can be done in less than an hour (not including drying time)

Supplies

You will need:

  1. Acrylic Paint
  2. Small Paintbrushes (1-2mm)
  3. Larger Paintbrush (1 cm)
  4. Large flat stone - or any size / shape
  5. Patience

Base

With your blank stone, paint on a circle of a contrasting colour. If your rock is light in colour (like mine) I'd recommend painting it black. If you rock is black, or dark grey, paint it white.

You should cover about half of your rock in the colour.

Centre Dot

After the base circle is dry, paint a dot in the centre of the circle. Do this by pressing lightly on the tube of paint, to make the dot. Alternatively use a paintbrush.

Keep adding different colours, using either paint straight from the tube, or a brush.

Try to use lighter colours first, and then darker colours second (or vice versa).

The best effects are created when light colours are placed on the darker part of the rock, and dark colours are placed on the lighter part of the rock.

Little Dots

After your big dots have dried, come back through with a small paint brush, and add extra little dots.

This step can be finished very early, or you can add many little dots. Sometimes less is more.

Finished!!

When you are happy with your rock, let it dry thoroughly. This might mean leaving it overnight.

Once it is thoroughly dry, paint over it with a clear, shiny lacquer (if you want). This will make the colour last longer.
