I recently bought a pack of glass paint because i thought i could paint a plate like they displayed at the craft store.Sadlt the paint said I couldn't get it wet, so i set out to try to find something to do with them that doesn't get wet.Jar lanterns it is.

To make one you'll need :
  • A medium clear jar ( like for jam or pickles )
  • Glass paints
  • Thin wire
  • Pliers
  • A marker
If you want to use a no fire tea light or just for fun and to make it look cuter you can design the cap too, you'll need
  • The cap
  • Fabric of your choice
  • Fabric glue
  • Scissors

Draw It Out

Use your marker to draw out your design on the jar. If you want you can also just free hand it .

Outline It and Fill In

Use your black outliner or paint to trace the design you made and seperate teh colors you will fill in. Wait for it to dry for about 20 minutes if you want it neat. Now fill in colors on one side only or it will drip out of the outline. For this i keep the jar on my pliers when they are opened a bit since it  acts like a stand. Again let it dry for a bout a hour. Repeat on remaining sides later. This part took me about a whole day to do. Till then do step 3 if you you are taking the option.

Make the Lid

For this , just cut out a square of fabric a bit larger than your lid. Use a line of fabric glue inside the rim to secure the fabric. Trim away extra fabric.

Making the Hanging Arrangements :)

Now to make the lantern hang, wrap a piece of wire around the neck of the jar. Twist the ends together so they don't poke out. String two pieces of wires about 6" long on oppposite sides of the neck. Fold them in half and twist closed. Now twist these together and loop into well... a loop. You can tie some string to the loop to hang it or leave it on a table.

Now drop a lit candle inside and see your design project itself on a near by wall.
