PC Build
Today we will be building a PC(Personal Computer).
Supplies
You will need:
- Computer Case
- Motherboard
- Standoff
- CPU(Central Processing Unit)
- CPU Fan
- RAM Sticks
- Power Supply
- Thermopaste
- Hard Drive
- Antistatic strap: Make sure to wear it throughout the build in order to protect your parts from static electricity
- alcohol: wipes to clean up any wasted thermo-paste
Installing CPU and RAM
Install CPU in the mother board and put a pea-sized amount of thermal paste then add the CPU fan on top. Make sure to match the triangle on the CPU socket to the one on the CPU. once matched and angled correctly insert with the Z.I.F(Zero Insertion Force) Rule. Then pull the arm back down making sure that metal is tucked under the screw before latching the arm. Install compatible RAM by lining up the RAM slot notches and pressing firmly straight down until it clicks.
Open PC Case
Remove screws and remove the side of the computer case by sliding the panel off.
Install Powersupply
Install power supply to the back of the case and secure it with the screws. Make sure you cables have ample room to route.
Install Mother Board
Install standoff screws to prevent the motherboard from being fried when touching the metal case. Then lay motherboard and align screw holes with standoff holes and secure with screws.
Connect Power
Connect power supply to motherboard plug in to the correct places.
Places to check:
- 20/24 pin: Powers motherboard
- 4/8 pin: Dedicated power to the CPU
- 6/8 pin: Dedicated power to the GPU
- Molex: Legacy Power for Old HHD/Optical Drives
- Berg: Legacy connector for disk drives
- SATA: Dedicated power for HHD-L shaped connector
- Speaker and Front Audio Connector: Powers sound systems
- Front Panel Connector: Powers the power button on the case
- Fan connectors: Powers the fans - If you run out of fan plugins then you may need to plug it into the molex connector
Testing/Trouble Shooting
Test PC to see if it boots and powers on correctly with no beep codes if not use trouble shooting strategies to find and solve the problems.
Close Case
Reinstall case cover and secure it with screws then redo step 6 to insure functionality.
