“PANE”-LESS WINDOW CLEANING

I’m no Pro, but I think I’ve found an easy way to keep windows sparkling clean. First, buy the right good quality stuff. It'll make the job easier. Also, realize that this is for outside windows only. Try it inside and you'll make a big mess.

MATERIALS

You'll need an extendable pole with a 16 inch window scrubber and squeegees to fit. Also, a wallpaper tray, some dishwasher rinse agent, dish soap, and cleaning vinegar. A microfibre cloth is handy for wiping the squeegee and window sills clean.

PRE-CLEAN

Make sure your windows are closed and hose them down to remove loose dirt. This also cleans the frames and the screens if they are on the outside. If this is the case, you will have to remove the screens before proceeding.

TACKLE THE WINDOWS

Fill the tray with warm water, a big splash of vinegar, and add a generous squirt of rinse agent and a “drop” of soap.

Wet the scrubber in the solution and apply to the windows.

Immediately run the squeegee vertically down the window. Use overlapping strokes till all solution is removed.

Hints: Do one window at a time. Don't clean them in direct sunlight. With practice, you'll be able to clean all your windows quickly. I live in a typical suburban split level house and can do my windows completely in half an hour.

CAUTION: Get an insulated pole if possible. Stay away from power lines.

HIGH WINDOW HACK

If the pole won’t extend to high windows, don’t risk a ladder. Buy a commercial window cleaning product (like the one pictured) attached to your garden hose and follow the directions on the bottle . This will clean the screens and windows in one step and will do an acceptable job.
