Grow blackberry bushes, even if you only start with one, new ones will pop up creating a mini-thicket. Provide tomato cages or some type of climbing guide for the bushes - they will reach out several feet from their location. Nurture each new one and before you know it, you will have plenty of blackberry bushes and berries. Plant closer to your home to avoid deer taking them before you. 2-3 bushes will give you a bowlful every week. Always try to pick the minute they turn black to avoid larger seeds.

Collect your blackberries, picking only the black ones as they will turn from red to black as they ripen. Once you have your desired amount, add water and let them sit for several minutes then drain. This will help debris float out of the berries.

Lastly find your smaller serving dishes, place a handful of blackberries in each one. Add a dollop of cottage cheese, or yogurt or oats over the top of the blackberries. Stir enough to coat the blackberries and add a little bit of honey, sugar or agave syrup and stir one last time. Place in the refrigerator to enjoy in the am for your quick and healthy breakfast from your own garden! My favorite is the cottage cheese and blackberries - the saltiness of the cottage cheese paired with the berries and a tad of honey is heavenly. Don't forget you can add blackberries to a salad or even a roast chicken dish. Just aim to pick them young vs. waiting for them to be large and plumper as that also leads to more pits. ENJOY your bushes and free organic breakfast!
