Overlays for the Intrepid Board Game.

The warping resource boards seemed to come around about the same time I started learning how to work with a local maker studio. They have 40w CO2 lasers, so I took a shot at designing a set of overlays that you can use in conjunction with the boards, allowing the dials to spin without moving the rest of the board.

I'm providing the cut file in SVG format, in the hopes that they might be of use to the community.

Supplies

  • 2x sheets of Optix Acrylic (0.08" x 28" x 30")
  • 16 medium size binder clips

Optionally, you can use 0.08"/2mm balsa or plywood for the backing half for each resource board. If you do this, you should use the backside-only cutfile for the wood part.

Prep Your Material

Use some sort of painter's tape on the backside of your clear acrylic to reduce singeing the acrylic.

Try to cover all the places where the laser will be cutting.

Prepare Your File for Your Cutter

Use the provided SVG files with your cutter's suggested software to layout the board for cutting.

There are two versions. v2 has individual notches for each space on the Resource Bonus and Capacity tracks. v3 has one large space for those tracks, and will likely be faster to cut.

At the top and bottom of the right side of the board (looking at the back), place two shims each in the corners, and clip a binder clip to hold the front and back overlays on top of the shims. The shims are important as they allow the resource wheel to turn, once assembled.

Optionally, glue two shims together, then glue them to the backer board in approximately the same place, then put the binder clip on to keep the front and back overlays together.

(Optional) Remove Binder Clip Handles

Squeezing the clip handles together, you can remove the clip handles to reduce the amount of overlap they have on the board, and space they take up on the table.
