Start by cutting out a decent sized piece of clay. Then use the rolling pin to flatten out the the clay. Once you're done, use the jar lid to cut out a round piece (you can use any size of lid). Now peel the clay around the jar lid then remove the lid. Carefully remove the clay base from the cutting board.

Now that we've made the base lets start the sides. To do that we're going to take a piece of clay and roll it into a coil. Then take the ball stylus and use it to blend it to the base. Now that we've done the inside let's start on the outside: Take the ball stylus and blend the outside like we did on the inside. Now the smoothing! To do that we're going to use a bigger ball stylus. Start by taking a small pice of clay and use the ball stylus to smooth the piece of clay on the inside and the outside. Then use an even bigger ball stylus to smooth that even more.

Adding the Details

Remove the coaster from the cutting board. For the detailing make tiny balls and blend them onto the sides.

Now it's time to start the baking. Take a baking sheet and put a piece of parchment paper on it. Put the coaster on the baking sheet. Set the oven to bake at 275 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the baking sheet with the coaster in the oven for between 10 and 20 minutes. Make sure to check on it regularly until it's done. When it's done let it cool. It should be hard when it's done cooling.

Now that we're done baking it it's time to paint it. Choose your paint color (I used white acrylic paint) and paintbrushes (the ones I'm using are in the above photograph) Paint the coaster and if needed you can do more coats for better coverage.

Using It!

Now it's time to use it! You can use it to protect any surface, table, desk, or counter while enjoying a hot beverage!

I hope you enjoyed this Instructable and had fun making this project!
