This Longboard is out of this world no simple longboard design would do so I reach for the stars and came up with this futuristic design .

Tools and Material Needed for This Project

Tools

  • Table Saw
  • Jig Saw
  • Palm Sander
  • Grinder with sanding disc
  • belt sander
  • clamps more the better
  • drill
  • cheap pain brush

  • grip tape
  • laser jet printed star design

Cut Strips of Material

I had a general idea in my head what I wanted the space longboard to look like so I cut strips of cedar into 1" by 3/4" and cut the pine at 3/4" by 1/4"

Glue Up

This is where you can get fancy with the design I did pine cedar pine ceder and so on... I allowed 24 hours to dry

Cut the Shape Out

You can find templates online but I choose to go on my favorite design software Auto CAD and design the most futuristic out of this work design. Traced it out and cut it out with the jig saw.

Sanding

Now with the shape of the board cut out time to sand it into shape, when gluing the boards together it made a concave that I really liked so the planer was not going to be able to be used on this project. I started out with the grinder with a sanding disc. This worked very well on the inside of the concave where the belt sander could get to. On the opposite side I used the belt sander to get a nice smooth surface. Then starting with 60 grit on the palm sander to knock down all the imperfections from the grinder. From there I stepped it to 80 grit then 120 and finished it with 220 grit. lot of work but well worth the effort.

Add the Details

For the the bottom design i used a laser jet printed star design. Add a thin layer of polyurethane to the desired location of the art work place LASER JET printed must be laser jet printed for this process to work. press all air bubble out starting from the center and working out to the sides. Let dry for 45 minutes. Final step of this process is to dab water on the paper and rub off all the paper the image will remain. I seen some people use an old tooth bush.

Add the Star Dust

Amazingly I was able to find star dust at my local craft store the called it glitter but we all know its really star dust.

I added 1 teaspoon of glitter to my mixture of epoxy and and hardener mix well coated the top and bottom

Add Grip Tape

I cut star shapes out of a sheet of grip tape I got from a local skate shop and placed them randomly on the top of the board. A perfect way to showcase the wood with out covering it completely.

Add Trucks and Wheels
