Need a quick craft for a last minute birthday present? Need some decor for your room? Look no further than origami wishing stars! Each star is highly customization to your own liking. Give it a try! It is simple, easy, and for all ages!

Supplies

  1. Paper of any size ( *Note* In this instructable, I am using a standard copy paper as a reference. But any regular colored paper or paper strips bought specially for this project will do)
  2. Pencil
  3. Ruler
  4. (Optional) Jar
  5. (Optional) Ribbon
  6. (Optional) Miniature LED Lights

Preparing the Paper

Using a pencil and a ruler, (on portrait) measure out an 1” across from one end to the other by lightly drawing the line with a pencil. Then cut out the strip of paper and put away the rest of the paper for now.

Make a Pentagon

Start by tying a knot with the strip of paper you have just cut out. Flatten out the knot to start the base shape. Cut off excess at the shorter end of the shape and tuck the rest away to form a pentagon shape

Wrapping the Shape

We will be using the remaining “tail” (the remaining paper from the strip) of the pentagon to wrap around the shape to give it tougher structure to mold into a star later on. The paper strip will follow the angle of the shape each time we fold up and over to the backside of the shape. When reaching the end of the paper strip, tuck away the remaining. By now, you should have a pentagon shape with no tailing paper.

Molding the Star

Now we will be giving a 3D shape to the pentagon to form a wishing star. A pentagon has 5 sides and we will be pressing/pinching the middle of one of the sides to form an indent in the shape. If your paper is too thin, the shape will not have the same puffiness as shown in the picture. Repeat for the other 5 sides until a star has formed.

Repeat for More Stars!

Now that you have your first star, it is time to make more! Repeat steps 1 to 4 for more stars. The amount of stars you will need depends on the size of the jar you will put the stars in. Take your time, you can do it!

Extras/ Add-ons

Need a place to put your origami wishing stars? Look for a clear jar that will allow you to see your stars. If you would like to have your star jar scented, use empty scented candle jars for an extra bonus! Add a ribbon around the neck of the jar or add some mini LED lights for a wonderful effect to top it off!
