Origami Star Box Tutorial

Today, I'll be showing you how to make an origami star box tutorial. This box is a little challenging, especially to people newer to origami, though the finished product is really cool. It's also useful for holding small things!

Supplies

  • Square piece of paper (Or you could cut printer paper into a square)

Fold a Plus

WIN_20220115_08_45_29_Pro.jpg

First, fold your paper from left to right, then unfold. After that, fold from up to down, and unfold. You should see a plus on your paper.

Fold Diagonally

Flip your paper over, then fold your paper diagonally, as shown above, then unfold.

"Pop" Paper

Flip your paper over, then press down on the middle of your paper, essentially "popping" the paper.

Fold Into Square

This part can be tricky. First, you're going to want to fold along your paper in half, then slowly pushing the sides up. You should see four flaps forming: fold two together on each side, as shown. Your paper should be a thicker square.

Orientation

WIN_20220115_09_39_38_Pro.jpg
WIN_20220115_09_39_47_Pro.jpg

Make sure you know where the different ends of the square are, as orientation is really important for the next steps. The top part of your square is the first picture (there are no "holes" in this corner), and the second picture is the bottom of your square (there's a "hole" on the bottom) (though your square should be rotated so the top corner is actually the top of your square).

Kite Fold

Now, with the "holed" corner on the bottom, kite fold the top layer as shown, bringing the left and right corners into the middle.

Repeat

Flip your paper over, and repeat (again, with the "holed" corner still on the bottom)

Fold Corners

Now, fold the inner corners to the outside as shown. Do this on all sides.

Unfold

Now, undo the folds you did on Step 9.

Flatten

WIN_20220115_10_30_45_Pro.jpg

Now, the flaps that you made in Steps 6 and 7 have 2 layers. You're going to want to unfold one of those layers, then flatten it out as shown. Do this with all 4 flaps.

Flip Flaps

Now, you're going to want to fold the flaps as shown. Only fold the flaps I show.

Fold Along Lines

Now, fold along the creases to the middle. Do this on all four flaps.

Fold Bottom Corner

Now, fold the bottom corner up until the crease is right below the upper triangles. Do this on both sides.

Flip Flaps and Repeat

Now, repeat Step 11. After that, repeat Step 13.

Open Box

Finally, slowly open the box as I show above. Pull the flaps to start it, then pop out the other flaps as shown. Make sure there aren't any dents, and you're done!

Enjoy!
