Origami Hexagonal Envelope/Pouch
Envelopes, simple and quite useful too especially for sending messages and greetings. But aren't they just too simple? A hexagonal one would surely look nice and if it is paper origami, it's awesome.
As it's paper origami you just need-
- An A4 sheet of paper(Can be coloured, designed or just plain white)
- A ruler and a pen or a pencil
- Glue
- A flat surface to work on
Note: Actually you can use any rectangular sheet of paper for making this! The steps will be the same. As A4 is easily available everywhere I will be using it for this instructable.
Measure the length of the page that you've taken and and divide it by six. The length of an A4 is 297mm, so 297mm÷6 = 49.5mm.
Orient the page to portrait. Now using this measurement mark points at the edge of the page from the top right corner. These points will act as guides for you to divide the page in six equal parts.
Using these guides fold the page, and unfold to form creases. Your page should look like the one in the picture.
Orient the page to landscape. Now divide the new measurement(i.e., 49.5mm) by three. Here, 49.5mm÷3 = 16.5mm.
Now using this measurement mark a point in the rightmost part of the page as shown in the picture.
After marking, fold such that the corner touches the crease and the fold does not cross point marked (look at the picture).
Turn over the page from the top so that you have the folded corner at the bottom right of the page and then valley fold from the bottom such that the folded corner comes upward.
Now unfold the folded corner and grab the rightmost crease and join the top to the next crease and unfold. Do this for all the creases, till you get a slant creases.
Unfold the valley fold and then turn over the page from the bottom.
Orient the page to portrait, such that folded corner is at the bottom right of the page. Now fold the second slanting crease completely as shown in the picture.
Unfold and now valley fold the bottom edge of the page till the bottommost crease and again unfold it.
You'll notice the two creases that were made in the last step, intersect at a point. Using that point and the place where the vertical crease ends, fold the paper as shown in the picture to form an isosceles triangle.
Note: If the formed sides are not equal then you need to fold properly. You need to be quite accurate in this step.
Orient the page to landscape. Now valley fold from the tip of the triangle(the intersecting point). Cut the page along this fold.
Now take the part with the triangle on it and leave the rest of the page for some other use.Orient the page to portrait.
Now fold the larger spaces into half as shown in the picture. Unfold and repeat this to all six parts. These new creases will act as guides for the next step.
Note: Remember to fold only till the vertical line and not the whole width.
Now fold the slant creases completely extending in the guides' region. The folds should touch the ends of the guides. And then unfold. This step needs accuracy!
After completing all the creasing your page should look like the one in the picture!
Mountain fold through the vertical crease. Grab the top right part with one hand and the creased part with the other and start joining them as shown in the pictures.
After joining all bring the bottommost flap upwards so that the design formed gets interlocked! Stick the flaps with glue.
Now turn it over and bend the first flap of the triangle inside and then press it flat. Continue bending inside, folding and pressing till the last one.
The last triangle will have a flap on it. This can be used to close and open the envelope. Insert this flap in the first triangle and your envelope is ready, but not completely yet!Y
You can decorate your envelope/pouch with whatever you want. You can also write 'Pull to open' on the last flap so that you don't forget which flap to pull. And also don't forget to put something in it! And there, your hexagonal envelope is ready!!!
You can use these for gifts, messages etc.
And don't get disappointed if you don't get it right for the first time! You can always try the next time and it will surely come out to be great!
