Origami Dominos

IMG_0357.JPG

For this project you will be making some origami dominos. You can build small structures with them, put them in a line and topple them over, or use a ballpoint pen to write dots on them to play dominos.

Supplies

All you need is some paper to make the dominos out of, using one sheet for each domino.

For my examples I used 3" x 3" paper, but any size should work as long as it is square.

if you want some pre-cut origami paper, look here.

First, take a piece of square paper and start by folding it in half, but only crease the corner of it, not the whole fold.

Now unfold and rotate it 90°. Fold it again, repeating the last step to create 2 small creases.

Fold the bottom half of the paper to the middle crease you made earlier, then fold the top half to the middle.

Main Folds

We will now be making all the main folds, or the folds that make up most of the origami domino.

  • Using your first crease as a guide, take the left side and fold it to the middle. Repeat with the right side.
  • Next, unfold both left and right sides so you now have creases on both sides of your paper.
  • Now take your left side and fold it up to the right-side crease to make a new crease (marked in yellow).
  • Unfold and repeat with the right side.

Last Fold

For the final fold, take the left side of your paper and squeeze the ends slightly so that you create a small flap.

Then use the right side of your paper and insert it into the left flap, as shown in the picture.
