A tutorial on how to make flex sensors

Measure Length of Hogu

Measure the length of the Hogu as shown. This will be the length of all the flex sensors.

Cut Velostat Material

IMG_20240202_145602.jpg

Cut your velostat sheet into a strip about 1.5 inches wide and as long as the previous measurement. If the velostat is too short to fit the length then a second section can be cut to fit the length.

Cut Foil

Cut out 2 strips of aluminum foil like shown above.

Strip Wire

Take the end of some black wire and strip about an inch with scissors.

Tape End of Wire to Foil

Use electrical tape to connect the wire to the foil. Wrap the tape all the way around the foil so that the wire cannot make direct contact with the velostat.

Tape Foil to Velostat

Use electrical tape to attach the foil to the velostat. Make sure the foil is as flat against the velostat as possible.

Repeat on Other Side

Repeat the previous steps for the other side of the velostat film. It is recommended that red wire is used for this step to distinguish ground from power.

Cut the Ends

Cut the ends of the wire from the role. Leave at least 6 extra inches on top of the length needed to route the wires over the shoulders and to the back of the Hogu.

Repeat Until You Have 5 Sensors Total
