Hi guys !
I've bought this old and rusty lamp in a garage sale for 5€. I like this shape but I don't know where, when and why she was built. I think the light was make by a candle placed in the lamp. The shape is cool but the lamp is rusty and the paint need to be removed and restored. so, I like candle, but i prefer improve the lamp by adding a led light bulb.

To restore that lamp i dont need lot of things :

  • An old rusty lamp..
  • Wire and swich
  • Light bulbe
  • Light bulbe socket
  • Wooden disk
  • coloured coating: I've chosen black hammered spray paint and silver hammered paint
  • WD40
  • 5 Screws

For the tools, I use:

  • Drill
  • Metal bross
  • Sander
  • Paintbrush
  • screws driver

First at all,

I take a look and unscrew 3 nuts to take the lamp to pieces.

I wash all pieces, dry them and apply WD40 on metal parts.

I use metalic brush and sander to remove the old paint and rust. I'm always impressed to find beautifull and shiny steel under a coat of rust. I think this lamp has not been done by a machine, but by a craftsman.

Paint Job

Both coating I use are rust preventive. I use first a black spray coating to paint the rod

Then a silver coating to paint the rest.

I apply 2 coats of each

To add the light bulb, I cut a wooden disk with a hole saw. I paint the light bulb socket and the disk in black then drill 3 holes on the lamp base. I add screws to fix the disk to the base. I drill a fourth hole in the base to pass the wire.

There is 2 hole on the light bulb socket that I use to fix it on the base.

Light : ok

I put the glass in place and screws the nuts and bolts to fix the upper part.

And it's over!
