This is an amazing and beautiful craft that will test your fiber arts skills. It is very fun to make the Ojos de Dios, and it is even more fun to be able to wear your project. This is a rewarding activity that will make you ooh and ahh!

Supplies

  • Necklace chain
  • 3 Strings of Yarn (about 20 in in length, tied together at the ends)
  • Pliers
  • 20 Gauge Wire
  • Broken-Off Pieces of a Beading Brooch Base
  • Craft Glue
  • Misc. Beads, Charms, etc.

Forming the Structure

Cut two pieces of wire, about 3-4 inches each, and take two broken-off pieces of the brooch base. Thread one piece of wire through two holes of one brooch piece. Take the second base piece and put it on top of the other one perpendicularly. Take the other wire and thread it through two holes of the brooch piece from behind everything. This way it stays in place.

Pliers

Use your pliers to wrap the wire around and create a small, "jump-ring"-like loop on every side.

Now take the start of your yarn and begin weaving it into an Ojos de Dios around the wire. If the wires were a compass rose, the pattern would be to weave the yarn over North, then weave it under and around West, then weave it over and around South, and keep going in the over-around, under-around pattern until you run out of yarn.

Craft Glue

Apply craft glue to the back of your creation. Let it dry.

Charms

Glue one charm to the middle of the pendant, and attach one from the bottom loop of the wire using pliers. Let it dry.

Attach the Chain

Using pliers the same way you attached the gem, hook the pendant on to the neckalce chain and then close the loop. Congradulations! You now have a beautiful, new necklace.
