Oilpastel Oranges!

WP_20190615_10_20_14_Pro.jpg

This instructable is all about drawing oranges with oilpastels.

That orange in the plate above is not real, it is one of my drawings!

If you like paints better than pastels, check this out: https://www.instructables.com/id/Pearfect-Watercolor-Pears/

Supplies

Oil pastes ( red, green, yellow, orange, brown, black, white).

Paper.

A pencil.

Just draw a simple orange-shaped circle with a small dot on the top for a stem.

Decide Where the The Light Will Hit the Orange

I have put some arrows to mark the light and shadow.

You don't have to draw the arrows, they are only for the easy understanding of my pictures.

Oranging It

Color it with a bright orange but don't color it nicely, because this mess is important for the next steps.

Don't worry about the light and shadow.

Don't Mind Orange Hands?

Spread the color evenly with your fingers!

Fancy a Bit of a Natural Look?

Add green and spread it, but don't over do it, as this can get messed up very easily.

Tad Bit of Yellow!

WP_20190615_10_11_02_Pro.jpg

Put some yellow on the area where most of the light is hitting it.

It may not have much of an effect right now, but you'll see...

Add White!

Put white over the yellow and work it around with your fingers until it becomes like picture 3.

Lurking in the Shadows...

Draw three lines of black where most of the shadow will be.

Spread out these lines, like in picture 2, and add some red spots, but not too bright red spots.

NOTE: Black and dark blue oilpastels look very similar! Make sure to test them before using them on your drawing.

Adding the Stem

WP_20190615_10_15_23_Pro.jpg

Add the brown stem and (if needed) add some more white to the bright spot.

Adjusting Shadow Intensity

I am making my orange's shadow very dark, but it is not important, just do what makes you happy.

Have Fun Drawing!
