Thanks for Visiting Folks! My name is Nifty Nate and I love helping people! I started the company Terra Karma to open source and improve on designs for tools and machinery that can be used to provide clean water and power in 3rd world countries (well really everywhere, but it's 2020 and people in the world don't have clean water...REALLY?). Some of the links you see are Affiliate links and they tremendously help us financially do the good we are doing in the world. It costs you nothing extra, and you are helping provide power and clean water to someone in need. For more information about what we are doing, check out http://TerraKarma.org

Now: On to changing your life with an oil change....

Who's got two thumbs and gets excited talking about oil changes? THIS GUY.

Oil changes are a part of life, If you want to keep driving your car, you have to change your oil. PERIOD.

Then why do they make it such a pain in the butt to do? THIS IS KAFKA!

I cross threaded my drain plug bolt ONE TIME and it stripped out completely when I went to tighten it down. All the parts to fix and tap a new hole cost me $80 at auto parts stores, plus FOUR HOURS of time to get it all sorted and fixed.

A real pain in the tuchus! That's for sure and certain!

Once you spend your time, you can NEVER get it back. People undervalue their time.

Would you rather be changing your oil or swinging in a hammock? Seems like an easy choice to me. Of course you are going to want to be changing your oil! What!?!? No?! It's only me? huh...

It was a stupid and expensive mistake that ended up saving me TIME, MONEY, AND it saved me from GETTING DIRTY! Hopefully you can learn from my mistake and preemptively install the switch so you don't have to worry about doing the whole drill and tap rigmarole. So Thank God it happened!

An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.

Now my oil changes are CLEAN AND QUICK!

Place pan under car,

Flip oil change switch 1/4 turn over,

Flip it back when drained,

Fill your car with new oil,

Check dipstick and adjust as necessary,

Enjoy the rest of your day!

10-15 minutes tops, Ive gotten it down to 6 minutes if you stop when it gets to a trickle.

360 SECONDS FOLKS.

THAT'S IT!

Supplies

You need :

The right weight oil for your car (usually listed on your oil cap)

I use: Mobil 1, Casterol Magnatec, or whatever other name brand oil is on sale.

An oil filter if it's time, I am testing the Mobile 1 20,000 mile oil filter. I will report back with the results.

A Fumoto Drain plug valve (see the next step to find your correct size)

And an empty oil jug will work just fine as a drain pan

Now you are ready to go!

Order the Correct Drain Plug Size.

Drain plugs come in many different sizes so go to the website and find the right fit for YOUR car, truck, or tractor.

Then click the corresponding link below to order the correct part!

The part numbers work like this:
F - (Model Number) - (Nipple length - S is short, L is long, and N is no nipple.)

I think the L sticks out a little more than I would like, so next time I will get the S short nipple version.

That being said, I have had the L model installed on my Prius for a year now and I haven't had any problems with hitting it, it opening, or getting dirt or crud in the nipple. I have driven up the mountains in Tahoe in a snowstorm in February and I had ZERO PROBLEMS!!!

I originally ordered the long nozzle thinking I would use a hose to drain it but in my experience, the hose is more of a hassle than it's worth and it really just slows the oil change down. I would recommend the S model because sometimes you feel like a nut ...er...hose, and sometimes you don't.

If you don't have a drain pan, cut a hole in the side of an empty jug. Otherwise, get your drain pan.

Slide it under your vehicle. NO JACKS. Jacks take TIME and that is something we are trying to save here!

Flip the drain switch 1/4 turn and drain it into the pan/jug.

Flip it back when it stops draining. If you want, you can add the plastic clip that comes with it, but I don't.

Add new oil.

DONE!!!

No really that's it. Check your oil level to make sure you have the right amount and ride on player!

Your first trip should be to recycle your oil at a local auto parts store!

Happy oil changing!

What about the filter? With the Mobile 1 20,000 mile filter you will probably only need to change it once per year. If you don't want to get messy or accidentally spill any oil you can go support your local shop and have them put it on for you.

Otherwise just unscrew it, take new oil and the lubricate rubber o ring, then screw the new one on hand tight.

Some people fill the filter with oil (I do), some people don't.

Easy peasy.
