No Drill Subaru Front License Plate Mounting

Would you like to preserve the paint job of your new car and avoid drilling holes to mount the front license plate bracket? This instructable demonstrates how on a 2023 Subaru Outback. The method should also work with other cars.

Zip ties - 2 or more

Pennies, nickles, or anything rigid. Here I used 2 knock-outs from an electrical box. Ok, you do need to drill 2 holes in each for the zip tie to pass through.

Test Fit

Test fit the license plate bracket. The bracket on for the Subaru just hooks on the top. The white paint showing with a dimple is where I'm avoiding to drill holes in the bumper. The screw holes on the bottom are not used. Looking through these, I can see vertical slats on the grill directly behind it.

Lightly Secure With Zip Ties

Pass the zip tie through the drilled "penny", loop it around the slat, back into the "penny" and lightly secure it. Repeat for the other side.

Bring It Home

Center the bracket and tighten down the zip ties.

Cut off the excess.

Mount the front license plate.
