Night Light From Glass Bottles
My little brother is scared of the dark and with his night light recently broken, I decided to create something new that I found around the house. I made a night light out of a large glass bottle and some LED's.
Supplies
Supplies
- large glass bottle
- kerosene
- string
- LED lights (any small portable light source is perfect)
- a paper plate (optional)
- lighter
Peel off any labels that are on the bottom half of the bottle.
Tie the string around the bottle where you would want the bottle to be cut. Try to minimize the size of the knot for a cleaner cut.
Place the bottle over the paper plate and pour kerosene over where the string is. Try to fully soak the string and minimize the kerosene directly on the bottle.
Light the string on fire and rotate the bottle so that the entire string is on fire. Be sure to light it over a sink in preparation of the next step and for overall safety.
After approximately 1.5 minutes of rotating the bottle so that it is evenly heated, quickly pour water over the fire and extinguish it completely. You should be hearing cracks in the bottle. If you don't, it is likely you did not heat it for long enough.
The bottle should be completely cut directly above where the string is. Clean the bottle so that it is clear of dark spots.
Add your light source and turn it on!
