Niffler Jewellery Stand

I know its a bit late to celebrate the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them. But owing to my exam schedule I couldn't work on this earlier and sorry for that. Anyways here it is!

Your personal Niffler which stores jewellery in its pouch (drawer!!) and allows you to hang bracelets and chains from its outstretched arm.

This is my first video tutorial (Yayyyy!!) and it may not be perfect. I was a bit under the weather lately and that is the reason why I had to shoot on different days as you may notice. But I have tried to capture the process as honestly as I could. I really hope you like it and please do advice me on how to make it better!

So here is the fantastic beast and how to make it.

Here is the list of materials you need for this project! Accio materials!

Raw materials

• Match box (I got this from a muggle/no-maj store. But you can use any box which functions as a drawer0
• Newspaper (I strongly advise against using The Daily Prophet and other wizarding papers as I am pretty sure the people inside will not appreciate it when you crumple the paper. So get yourself a bunch of muggle paper!)
• Cardboard (You may need various types of boards like different packaging cardboard. I used one piece of board from the box I got from Amazon which is
• Cardboard roll from tissue paper roll
• Optional: yellow felt sheet (for the scarf)

Tools and glues

• Masking tape (This is also called paper tape and I got it from a hardware store)
• Scissors
• Blade and/or X-acto knife
• Fevicol or any other school adhesive
• Brushes (Various sizes- flat for painting and covering the model with tissues and thin one for detailing)
• Paints (Black, blue, peach)
• Pencils or other writing material

This is all that you will need for this project. Once you have everything, let's get started!

In this step, we will fix the drawer to the skeleton and then fatten the body.

In the video this step is at 0:10/10:26

For this step you need:

• Cardboard
• Matchbox
• Newspaper
• Blade
• Scissors
• Masking tape

Steps:

1. Trace the side of the matchbox on the board.
2. Draw an egg like shape for the body around it.
3. Cut the egg as well as the rectangle inside.
4. Push the box into the cut rectangle and tape it in space.
5. Crumple paper into balls and keep attaching it to the main board. This way you will get the shape of the body. Use plenty of tape to hold it in place.Your aim is to make it look kind off like an egg (dragon's egg...)
6. Repeat it on either sides of the board. Do not cover the matchbox as it will prevent movement.
7. In case there is gaps around the box, use small balls of crumpled paper to plug them in.
8. At the end of this step your model should look like well...an egg? You can refer to the last image for some clarity!

Now we will be adding the legs.

You will be needing:

• Body from the last step
• Cardboard roll from tissue paper roll
• Masking tape
• Scissors
• Newspaper

Steps:

1. Cut straight across the tube (Longitudinally).
2. Cut it transversely to get two pieces of equal height.
3. As the radius of the tube will be really big for legs, roll the tube so that the ends overlap slightly. This way the radius will reduce. Use tape to hold the roll in place.
4. Use some more tape and attach the legs to the bottom of the egg-body.
5. Crumple some paper and twist it into a rope.
6. Tape this around the the place where the tube is attached to the body. it will make the legs look more natural. Not two rods sticking out!

That is about it! Let's move on

This Step we will add the arms.

You need:

• Packaging cardboard
• Tape
• Scissors
• the legged-egg

Steps:

1. Take a rectangular piece of board. Cut a small rectangle from the top corner.
2. Using the scissors make parallel lines on the board. This will make the rolling process easier!
3. Then roll! Use tape to keep it in place. The rectangle piece that we cut out will give the entire arm sort of slant edge. This way attaching the arm would become much easier.
4. Tape it down to the body.
5. Make two arms and attach one parallel to the body and one perpendicular or outstretched.

Now let's add the head.

Now the head.

In the video this step is at 3:35/10:26

You will need:

• Newspaper
• Masking tape
• Scissors
• Body-egg

Steps:

1. Take an entire sheet of paper and crumple it into a ball.
2. Take another sheet and place the ball in the middle. Wrap the sheet around the ball and pinch the excess to one side.
3. Pinch and twist the excess. Then leaving enough for the mouth (or should I call it a bill?) cut of the excess of the excess.
4. Wrap tape around this part of to make the mouth.
5. Attach this piece to the top of the body piece with....You guessed it....Tape.

Now the fingers and toes....

Let's attach the hands and feet then.

Accio....

• Cardboard
• Newspaper
• Masking tape
• Scissors
• Pencil

Steps:

1. Draw two hands and feet with pointed fingers/toes on the cardboard. Cut them out.
2. Now twist newspaper into claw like shapes.
3. Tape these to the finger/toes of the hand/feet cut outs you made.
4. Attach them using tape (gosh, you need a lot of tape) to the arms and legs.
5. For the tail, cut a triangular piece from the cardboard and attach just below the drawer.

Next.....Hardening!

This is a very important step. It hardens the entire model and makes it one solid piece. Another function of this step is that it whitewashes the model and makes it easier to paint uniformly.

For those of you who has gone through my Hogwarts model tutorial, you must be familiar with this step. (Also thank you for going through it!)

Hello dear friends! We are back from that advertisement break. So let's keep going.

In the video this step is at 7:36/10:26

You need:

• Tissue paper roll
• Fevicol or white school adhesive
• Water
• Thick and flat brush
• Bowl to mix the glue and water
• Model from last step

Steps:

1. Firstly, tear the tissue into many small pieces.
2. Mix the glue and water in a 1:1 ratio in the bowl.
3. Then start painting using the mix and attach the tissues one by one.
4. Keep repeating the process until the whole thing is white.
5. Please ensure you don't cover the drawer in this step. You wont be able to open it if you do. It is a good idea to remove the drawer piece and keep it aside if you want to.
6. Then let dry!

The fun part! Painting!!

This is always me favorite part!

In the video this step is at 8:52/10:26

For two reasons usually,

1. This is step is almost the last and reaching this step means I have not blown up this project (I am a bit like Seamus)
2. Also now I can soon I can start with a new project!!

Finally.... Apparate to your painting desk and paint the model.

You should have:

• Paints (black,blue,peach/skin tone))
• Brush (various sizes)
• Bowl for water
• Hardened model

Steps:

1. Begin by coating the entire body with blue-black paint. I thought this would give me the perfect shade for the Niffler's coat.
2. Paint the bill, feet and hands the peach shade. You can add more details as you seem fit. I shaded the bill and near the eyes.

You are done!!!

This is an optional step. I just thought a scarf will make the niffler look much cuter. I have not included this particular step in the video but the instructions are below.

You need:

• Yellow felt (you can use other colors as well)
• Blue paint (anything you choose will do too)
• Paint brush
• Bowl for water
• Stapler
• Niffler model

Steps:

1. Cut a thin strip of felt.
2. Paint strips of the color of your choice.
3. Loop it around the models neck. Then staple both the ends together.
4. Cut the excess off. Staple this perpendicular to the loop around the neck.

That is it!

WELL DONE!

Congratulations on completing this project! As no two nifflers are the same it is all right if you result isn't the same as mine. Now you can keep all you pretty ornaments in its pouch!
