Newton's Disc Top
Learn the physics of the composition of white light in a fun way through this toy version of Newton's Disc!
Supplies
You Will Need:
- CD
- Paints in all the 7 colors of the Rainbow (Roy. G. Biv)
- Short Pencil
- Black Marker
- Measuring Tape
- Clay
Marking the Disc
Measure the circumference of the CD with the measuring tape and divide it by 7. Make a line with the marker from the center of the CD to the edges on the distance of the quotient found by dividing the circumference into 7 parts. This marks the 7 sections on which the different colors of the rainbow will be painted.
Coloring the Disc
Now, paint the CD in the different colors of the rainbow in the following order:
- Red
- Orange
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
- Indigo
- Violet
Attaching the Disc to the Pencil
Lastly, allow it to dry and insert the pencil in the middle of the CD. If the pencil is too thin then apply a layer of clay around it and try again you can adjust the thickness by adding or removing the layers of clay. Enjoy your top!
