Nerf Lightsaber Rail Attachment With Glowing Lightsaber!

For my project, I created an attachment for nerf gun rails. It is meant to keep in a toy lightsaber in place so that it acts as a bayonet when you run out of ammo.

Supplies

All you need is a Nerf gun, the lightsaber, a computer(for 3D printing), and a 3D printer. Nerf darts are optional.

Design Ideas

After gathering your supplies, You need to start planning your design. There are endless possible ways to 3D print objects so you need to find which way works best. Write down your ideas and choose which one is the best. Another way to choose which idea to use is making a decision matrix. If you don't know what that is, it is a tool that evaluates and prioritizes a list of options using math to decide for you.

Measurments

For this step, all you need to do is get the measurments for your idea. The measurments are very important to get right because if they are wrong, it won't fit and you will just have a piece of junk. Cenimeters is probably the best way to measure but it doesn't really matter.

Sketching and Modeling

For the 3D modeling, you will need a 3D modeling program on the computer. Some programs are are more powerful than others (like solidworks), and some can even run on chromebooks, like Fusion 360. Personally I used solidworks because I have experience with it. Sketching is one of the core parts of 3D modeling, but is easy to do. You mostly make lines and circles then measure them using smart dimesion. After that you can extrude it to make it 3D. If some things are wrong about it you can go back in the sketch and change it or you could use extrud cut. The Extrude cut allows you to remove material from your model. After I extruded it I had to make screw holes so I could put the bolts through to keep it together. This involved using the hole wizard tool and the thread tool. I also had to create my own bolt which involved the thread tool so that it could go through the holes. The threads on both ends have to be the same size because if they aren't they won't fit. Before printing make sure everything is working and has all the right measurements.

Final Product

In the end it turned out like this! If you want to create your own just follow these steps. You don't have to use a lightsaber or the same nerf gun, it is just what I thought looked the best. I've tried it on several other nerf guns and it still works great. If you have never 3D printed you should really consider trying it sometime, you can make some really cool stuff!(Unless you don't have a 3D printer available of course).
