Neon Wreath Ornament

This instructable will show you how to crochet a neon-colored wreath ornament that can be hung. You can use any color yarn you want of course.

Items needed:

Yarn

Crochet Hook: around size H

Scissors

Yarn Needle

Create a slip knot by making a loop with the yarn and pulling the longer end of yarn through the loop. Pull the new loop and the yarn ends in opposite directions to tighten.

Tighten the slip knot on your crochet hook.

You will make a length of 45 chain stitches.

To chain stitch: pull the strand from the ball of yarn over the crochet hook, above your slip knot. Pull the crochet hook down to pull this strand of yarn through the slip knot. You will have a new loop on the crochet hook. Repeat this process 44 more times. You will end up with a long strand of chain stitches. Keep the stitches evenly tight, but loose enough that the crochet hook can go easily through.

The rest of the wreath consists of double crochet stitches. Once you have crocheted your 45 chain stitches, you will work "backwards" and start your double crochet stitches in the second to last chain stitch you did. In other words, you will have made the chain working left to right and you will work the rest of the wreath going right to left.

Double crochet: As you did for the chain stitch, put the yarn over the crochet hook. Then, holding the yarn still over the hook, insert your hook into the second the last chain stitch you did. There should now be three loops on your crochet hook. Yarn over again and pull through the first two loops. There will be two loop left on your crochet hook. Yarn over a final time and pull through the two loops, leaving one loop left on the crochet hook. The double crochet stitch is now complete.

You will do this double crochet stitch 2 more times in same original chain stitch, making a total of 3 double crochet stitches in the one chain stitch.

Repeat this process, making 3 double crochet stitches in each chain stitch, working your way down the line.

As you continue to double crochet, the piece will start to curl and spiral. It should be doing this as you work on the piece. Make sure the spiral all goes the same direction as seen in the picture and doesn't get tangled. After reaching the end of the chain stitches and completing the three double crochet in the final stitch, you should have one loop left on the crochet hook.

Use scissors to cut off the yarn tail, leaving a fairly long strand. Pull this long strand through the final loop on the hook and take the crochet hook out of the loop, creating a knot. Make a double knot.

This is the last step that will complete your wreath.

Use a yarn needle and thread the needle with the long tail that is left attached to the yarn. Make sure your spirals are correctly positioned. Push the needle through the middle of the spirals, as shown in the picture. Continue threading the needle completely through the middle of each spiral and connect it back to the beginning. This will create the circle wreath shape. Pull the yarn tight enough to hold the circle shape and feel free to adjust the tension until the shape is what you want.

After you are happy with the shape, tie off with a double knot. You can then bring the yarn up and sew through a little farther side of the top to create a hanging loop. Finish this off with another double knot and cut off the ends of the yarn.

Your wreath is now complete!
