Get Ready to Create!
Gather your supplies
For this project you can buy the entire kit above, or you can use your own fibres
Set out your piles of fibres:
Pile of core
Pile of scraps
Carded wool - cream
Carded wool - dark
Green locks
Create Your Base Egg Shape
Cut one leg from an old pair of tights (pantyhose)
Roughly felt the core into a ball shape - there's no need for finesse at this point!
Take around 8g of the wool scraps, wrap the ball with them, then place the ball in the tights - you'll need to keep back 2 grams for detailing the feet, ears and flowers.
Put the ball in the hottest wash in your washing machine.
Once it's finished, peel it out of the tights, and while it's still damp, squeeze and work it into an egg shape, rather than a ball.
If you prefer, at this step you can needle felt the entire egg shape, rather than creating one in a washing machine
Separate Your Carded Wool and Make the Legs/feet
Split your carded wool into 6 sections, you'll need 2 equal size amounts for the legs/feet, 2 equal size amounts for the ears, and 2 small sections to add later for the nose and tail.
Work on the legs/feet - roll each piece of fibre into a sausage shape, then felt it so it's a little tighter.
Then create a wedge shape at one end - this will be where you attach them to the egg body
Once you are confident they are the right size and shape, you can felt them onto the bottom side of the body
Create Your Ears
Taking the 2 longer pieces of carded wool you have left, create 2 loops as per the photos
Create 2 ear shapes by felting the fibre together.
Then take a small amount of your leftover wool scraps and create the inside of the ears, then attach ears to the body
Add the Feet Details, Nose and Check Your Project
Taking some of the wool scraps, I added a bit to the front of the feet. This helped match the look of the ears to the look of the feet. - nb you'll need a little bit left over for the flower garland.
Take one piece of your remaining carded cream wool and create a bean shape for the nose.
Take a tiny piece of the dark carded fibre and create 2 eyes, and add the detail of the nose to the bean shape.
At this stage, just place these items gently onto your bunny rabbit, and check that you are happy.
I noticed here that the eyes are much too big for the project, so I ended up taking them both off again, cutting one into half and using each half of one piece for an eye
Add the Tail
Roll the final piece of carded cream wool into a ball, then felt it onto your rabbit
Flower Garland
Take one of the green locks and place it onto your work mat
Then take the remaining wool scraps you have, roll them into tiny balls and felt them onto the green lock
Then place the garland onto the bunny head, and felt it into place
Finish the Project
Taking your final green lock, felt it near to the garland so that it looks like a tendril
Congratulations, you've finished your Easter Bunny Egg!
