Neck Pillow

Hello, today you will be learning how to make a neck pillow. I have been wanting a neck pillow for a long time but there always so expensive so I decided to make one myself. I hope this works out for you! :)

First of you will need some materials.

You will need some fabric that you could find from places like Michael's ,Walmart or a fabric store.

You will also need some thing to stuff it with. You could use the stuffing from an old pillow or get some stuffing from a store.

Next you will need something to go by. You could look up some templates and use those but I've already made a prototype and I have used that as my template.

Next you will need something to use to draw on the fabric. I am using a fabric marker which I think will probably work the best.

Next you will need scissors to cut the fabric.

Then you will need a needle and thread to sew through the fabric. If you want, you can use a sewing machine or serger as well as a needle and thread. I used a serger and needle and thread for most of it.

Lastly you will need some pins to keep the fabric together after you've cut it.

First fold your fabric in half in side out ( so the side you want inside is facing front) to make it go by faster.

Then get your template or prototype and trace half of it. You may want to make it bigger or smaller but just use it as something to go by.

Trace it with a marker or to make it easier trace it with a fabric marker.

Once you've traced it put pins in around where you traced to keep the fabric from moving when your cutting it out.

Next cut out what you've traced.

Once you have it cut out you can unfold it making sure not to move the two layers off of each other to much.

Then you can put pins back in all around the outer edges to make sure the two layers don't come apart.

(If you don't want to make a pocket for your neck pillow go to step 9 to continue making the neck pillow)

First trace out something that you will want to be put in to the pocket. I used a phone because I want to put my phone in the pocket.

Make sure to trace a bit bigger then the item your tracing because the pocket will be a bit smaller once its on from sewing it.

Next put pins all around the edges to make it easier when sewing.

Next put dots all around the edges with a marker to show where you want to put your needle so that you can have an even space between each stitch. If you're using a sewing machine then just simply sew it

Next put the thread through the needle and cut it at the length you want. If you end up cutting not enough you can just tie an other piece to it after.

Next make a knot in the thread.

The reason you are sewing the pocket it self is so that once you put it on the actual neck pillow it will have a finished edge.

Start by putting the needle through the first whole and pull it gently through. Make sure that as you pull the thread through the fabric you keep the thread untangled.

Keep sewing the needle and thread through the fabric on each of the dots.

Once you've sewed the whole thing cut the thread at the end and tie it up.

Next take out some of the pins from the fabric on only one half of the neck pillow shape (What ever side you want your pocket to be on).

Then put pins all around the edges of the pocket to make it easier when sewing it down.

Next hand sew the pocket onto the fabric the same way you sewed the sides together. (You will be sewing it onto the front of the fabric. The side that will be showing when you have the neck pillow finished).

Once you've sewed the whole pocket onto the fabric you can pin the fabric back to where it only shows the side that will be on the inside.

Next you start sewing the neck pillow together. You can either hand sew it, use a sewing machine, or serger

(Remember that the fabric is still inside out meaning the side thats facing up is the side that will be on the inside once its done)

Make sure that you leave a big enough hole to have space to stuff it.

Once you've sewed the shape together leaving a hole to stuff you will flip it inside out through the hole.

Next you will need to stuff it. You can use some kind of cotton or pillow stuffing. I am using an old pillow so I will be tracing it out first and then cutting it out.

Last step!

Once you've stuffed it you will need to hand sew it so that the stitching doesn't show.

Now you will have a nice comfy neck pillow!!
