Navi Christmas Tree Lights

Hey listen!

On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me some Navi Christmas tree lights.

Inspired by a project from @_nappyheadedninja_ on Instagram, I made some Legend of Zelda's Navi lights for my Christmas tree. This is a very simple project to put together that adds a ton of much needed (in my opinion) geeky flair to any Christmas tree.

Designing the Wings

Hey listen!

I started by measuring the base of one of the bulbs on the lights, then brought a design of wings into Inkscape and scaled the design to ensure that the center of the wings would fit over the bulb.

I duplicated the pattern 30 times, and exported it to my laser cutter software (K40 whisper)

Cutting the Wings

Hey listen!

I put the cardstock into the laser cutter, then sent the design from K40 whisper to the laser cutter. Using a speed of 10 and power level of 5, the laser cut out all the wing patterns.

Adding the Wings to the Lights

Hey listen!

I unscrewed each of the bulbs on the light strand, adding a pair of wings to each bulb before screwing it back in.

Lighting the Tree

Hey listen!

I had a small Christmas tree that I wanted to put these on, so I started by hiding the battery pack inside some ribbon wrapped around the base of the tree. I wrapped the Navi lights around the tree to the top, and then turned them on!
