Hi Everybody,

Hope you'll doing good. So I'm back after a small gap, this instructable is about creating your own wall decor with actual natural raw materials and preserve them in resin for eternity... You can create any type of theme you want, i wanted to create a forest type.. like big trees , bushes and sun.. So let's jump directly into the making process

Supplies

1) Wooden frame or old photo frame

2) Dried flowers and leaves

3) Silicon cup/ paper cup

4) popsicle sticks/reusable stirring stick

5) Epoxy Resin and hardener - Almost used 300g for A4 size frame

6) Green grass sponge

7) Acetate sheet

8) Latex

9) Weighing Machine

Safety Gears

Respirator mask and nitrile gloves are must. As this contains chemicals, they must be handled carefully, resin work is not recommended for under 18

Above all materials are locally sourced. Just incase you need help finding these in amazon, i'll be more happy to lend a hand

Preparation

Above all prepare the resin area set up, put a silicone or thick plastic sheet where resin will not get struck and check the arrangement of the forest scene you wanna create, I did multiple iteration and narrowed these two down. Finally chose one design

Latex Application

Apply Latex on the backside frame, as when resin poured if there little imperfections in frame causes it too leak outside. By applying latex on the outer frames, excess resin can be peeled of the surface once resin is cured, i.e., leaving you neat frame.

After applying latex, wait for it to fully dry, after drying it look like as in image 3

Prep the Resin& Hardener

As instructed in resin & hardener ratio, weigh them exactly... i.e., my resin and hardener ratio is 2:1 so it 80g of resin and 40g hardener. After proper mixing it will be transparent

First Coat

IMG_20210616_225834.jpg

IMG_20210616_230026.jpg

For first step let backside of the frame be same as applied for latex, now apply the epoxy in the depth of the frames, give a full touching of it

Greens

Now after that put the frame in original position as how it be hung in the wall, at the bottom apply a very thin layer of resin. Mean while take a cup with few gram of epoxy and add the green, it should be in thick consistency not flowing. If its flowing then it will spread in the above transparent layer, we don't want that to happen. so spread the thick layer on the bottom representing grass field

Trees & Bush 1

Pour clear resin on the surface and spread fast.. as were working with resin of medium viscosity , pot time is quite less so we have hurry up here.. why we are medium viscosity ?? its because if we use low viscosity it has tendency to spread wider, it will run out of frame easily.. Since i don't want that to happen i choose medium viscosity one.. After spreading start doing the arrangements.

Trees & Bush 2

IMG_20210616_234515.jpg

Keep the flowers and babybreath and fern as decided, since resin is already spread, it will get struck on to it and will not change position as now resin is thick.

Do you see yellow daisy as sun.. and white queen laces as white clouds

Next Day

So all our arrangement are fixed but they require two more transparent resin coating.. At this stage also you can add any extra cute things like little butterfly. But here poured another 120g of resin & hardener mix to coat it. Since i came out little in top side i stopped there by not pouring more. so i gave another coat of the same weight after this coat got dried..

Fun Part

IMG_20210618_165155.jpg

Now your arrangement is all dried up and ready to be mounted. so lets start by removing the acetate sheet. This is actually very fun and satisfying part. The sheet will come of once you peel it without causing any trouble

Second Peel

IMG_20210618_165300.jpg
20210622_091008.gif

Since we took a precaution of applying latex, the excess resin will flowed after giving second coat now will be removed by peeling the later layer off.

Fixing

Now after all peeling, taking a coffee break... !!! you deserve it. Now fix the hooks on two side with screw. Directly you mount this where two nails are attached or else you tie rope on both hook and hang in it in one nail. You may wonder why poke two holes and tying and hang it one.. well this gives appealing look than directly hanging it. Yes i already tried it... So its all ready to be mounted.

Thank You

Thank you for reading my instructable hope it helps you in making a new one. Hang it in light colour wall. It brings out the colours used in it.. So when you prepare, prep it with flowers colour that suits your wall colour..
