Nature Nook

One of our best uses of a small space was next to our screen-in porch, where we made a Nature Nook. When I say "Nature Nook" I mean a fun fort/garden space for kids. It can be as small or as big as you want depending on what you want in it. In this Instructable I'm going to show you how to make a Nature Nook of your own.

The first thing you need to add to your Nature Nook is some plants and flowers. We first started by taking a ladder from our old play structure or any wood ladder works too. Next, remove the stepping rocks on it if there are any. After that, we lightly stained it white so it had an aged look. Next, we added hanging plant baskets and decorative metal flowers. Last, we planted flowers and watered them in to finish it off.

The Next thing you will want in your Nature Nook are some vegetable plants. When you add plants to your nook be careful to make sure you have enough sunlight to keep them alive. We have a lot of sunlight in our nook so we put in a tomato plant and strawberry hanging basket.

Tip: Make sure to have a hose or watering can around for your plants

If you have room in your Nature Nook and you like to create and do art, then making a fairy garden would be right up your alley. For making a fairy garden you will want some buckets, mulch, dirt, colorful pebbles, fairy statues, and other decorations. It's a fun way to spend an afternoon, decorating a fairy garden.

The last thing you'll want in your Nature Nook is a hangout/seating area. This can be a hammock, a small outdoor couch, some chairs and outdoor cushions, or whatever is right for you. I've even seen swing chairs before. Last thing you might want is a coffee table, it's nice to be able to take some cool drinks out to your Nature Nook.

Now that your Nature Nook is done you will want to add some privacy to give it a "nook" feeling. We made a mulch bed around it and placed Arborvitae pine trees around the perimeter except for the entrance creating a shade wall area. But, you can also use boxwoods to create a lower wall or you can use another plant of your choice to create the "nook" feel. I hope you enjoy your Nature Nook and the fun plants your growing in it.
