Natural Hair Dye

Hair dyeing is a fashion trend as old as the human race itself. Using henna as dye is an ancient practice, which not only dyes hair but also conditions. I've always wanted to dye my hair so I gave henna dyeing a try.

You Will Need

  • One whole egg
  • 2 tbsp natural 100% henna powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (optional, I added this for extra conditioning)
  • 2 tbsp curd

Alternatively, instead of using egg you could use a cup of curd.

If you have long hair, double the quantity of ingredients.

Prepare the Mask

In a metal bowl, combine the egg white an egg yolk by whisking (you don't need to whisk it a lot, only enough to combine the two). Once combined, add in the henna, oil and curd and mix until a homogeneous mixture is achieved.

It is recommended to use a metal bowl as it does not stain, you could also use a plastic bowl that you do not mind throwing away.

Let the mixture sit for 15-30 minutes so that the henna develops color.

Apply the Mask

Now onto the messy bit. Before applying make sure you are wearing clothes that you not care much for, as henna stains are permanent.

Using a hair applicator brush, apply the mix all over your hair (from root to tip) just as you would normal dye.

Forewarning, the mixture is runny and will get everywhere. After you are done applying remove any from your skin using a wet cloth.

Let it sit for about 2 hours (1 hour if you have light hair).

Wash it out using regular shampoo (it might take 2 washes to get it all out).

The Result

I am in love with the result. I have jet black black hair and the results are phenomenal. Color is not visible in normal lighting but the is a definite red tinge in my hair when I go out in sunlight. If you have lighter hair the result will be more prominent.

Due to the egg, oil and curd my hair very well conditioned and extremely healthy.

Do try this dye out, as it not only colors but also conditions.
