Today you are going to be able to create a mushroom vibe shelf that can be made in just 30 minutes or less.

I made a mushroom shelf because when I saw the mushroom shelves on Amazon, I thought maybe I could make it myself without having to buy five for fifteen dollars. When I looked at it, I immediately thought I could use hot glue to make a mushroom shelf and then I would cut a command strip in half and put it on the base. I originally thought it would come out bad. But it didn't! once I realized that, I thought why not put it on instructable's right? It's very simple and can be made in just thirty minutes. If you follow along with each step you should find it very simple.

Supplies

  • 3 or 4 hot glue sticks
  • Glue gun
  • wax paper
  • PERMANENT markers not erasable markers
  • choose as many markers as you want but if you want to make it look good, make it with colors that go well together like I did with mine
  • 1 command strip because it will be cut in half

Create the Perimeter

The first step is probably the hardest. Making the perimeter of your shelf. first put down a layer of wax paper so the glue doesn't stick to your counter. Now it's time to start. You have to make sure that the shape is a semicircle so that the flat surface can go onto your wall without any problems. Warning: You might want to keep the shape a semicircle because if you don't, you then would have made something that cannot become a shelf. Stick with the original until you get better at making them. I hope this step isn't too hard because it can be a challenge because if you mess this part up, the rest of it will probably not work.

Fill It In

The next step is to fill it in! Now what you are going to do is fill in the blank. make the semicircle be filled with glue. In the beginning it looks like nothing but as you slowly add layers, it will become more of a shelf and a mushroom. Keep continuously adding layers but also make sure that your flat surface is actually flat and not messy. It takes practice but I know you can do it. Anyone can. If you don't make sure that your one surface that sticks to the wall isn't flat then the command strip won't stay on. I hope you have fun making the main shape of your shelf.

Color

You are now on step three, coloring it in. If you don't have permanent colored markers you are more than welcome to use acrylic paint instead. I think that using markers makes it more realistic though. I find that your shelf will look more like a mushroom if you use colors that slowly fade into each other or go well together. If you want to do otherwise, then that's fine. It is your decision. I used gold, brown, red, and orange. I found that all of those colors went very well together. I'm sure different shades of one color would look nice too.

Command Strip

Now what you have to do is add the command strip. It works better if you cut the command strip in half and then cut it to the size of your mushroom shelf. Once you do that then you are going to put it wherever you like. Or particularly an outdoorsy room or mushroom themed room. This can be a challenge because sometimes the command strip just doesn't want to work with you. Hopefully you don't have a hard time with this though.

Stick It and Place Items

Yay, you're on the last step. For this all you're going to do is stick it to the wall aligned as perfectly as you can and then put little trinkets or small things on it. If you like it just for decoration maybe you won't put anything on it. I hope that my mushroom shelf made out of hot glue worked well for you. Have a good day bye!
