Munchie Beret

If your inner conscience is berating you, why not match your appearance with your inner state - and don a munchie beret? Or perhaps you are ruminating over some thoughts... the munchie beret will chew your noggin too! Whatever the occasion, this easy hat is plenty of fun to make and wear!

Supplies

  • cloth of your choice (preferably a thicker fabric; also, you can pick a second fabric for the lining if you wish)
  • thread that matches the colour of your cloth
  • white felt (for teeth and eyes)
  • black felt (for eyes)
  • sewing needle (or a sewing machine, if you have one)
  • pencil
  • scissors

Trace the Circles

On both cloths for the hat and lining, trace two big circles about 26 cm in diameter. A bowl is very useful for this! For one big circle on each cloth, trace a smaller circle inside that is slightly smaller than the width of your head (about 14 cm in diameter).

Time to Sew!

Place the donut shape on top of the full circle, and sew along the outer edge as indicated by the dotted lines in the photo, for both pieces of cloth.

Putting It Together

Flip the lining inside out, and put it inside the outer hat piece.

Teeth!

Cut some teeth from the white felt, and insert the pointy teeth side in between the two layers of cloth.

Sewing It All Up

Starting with the part that has the teeth, sew around the inside circle. Stop when you have about 5 cm left, and flip the hat inside out. Then, while keeping the edges of the cloth tucked in, use an invisible stitch to sew up the last bit. If you don't know how to do this, this website has a good tutorial: https://madetosew.com/how-to-invisible-stitching/

Finally, the Eyes

Cut out some eyes from black and white felt, and sew them to the top of the beret. You're done!
