Multifunctional One-Handed Kitchen Set - Knife

These are the instructions on how to make the knife component of the Multifunctional One-Handed Kitchen Set. In the spirit of upcycling, the majority of this component is made out of a recycled DVD player.

Materials Required

1 x DVD player casing (top panel)

2 x 3D printed handle halves

Tools and additional material required:

Sandpaper, band saw, vice, file, marker, paper

Surface Preparation

Sand down the paint from both sides of the sheet metal until bare metal can be seen.

Cut to Shape

Place template of knife over metal, draw an outline and then cut out with a band saw.

Preparing Blade

Smooth out rough edges with a file and then begin to sharpen blade area with sandpaper.

Refining Blade

Cut gripping spikes with band saw and continue sharpening blade with file until fully sharp.

Gluing Handles

After mixing well, apply Araldite onto one surface of the blade, and then attached one side of the handle. Wait 10-20 minutes for glue to set until repeating step on other side.

Finishing Up

Allow glue to fully set for 16 hours, and then rinse thoroughly. The knife is now ready to use.
