Multi-purpose Pen
Inspiration
I am Von Kestler Aquino, a 2nd year college student from Southern Luzon State University currently taking Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I was jotting down notes for my upcoming examinations in our university and all the things I needed were on my table such as ballpen, highlighter, correction fluid, and marker. It was such a hassle to switch items of my choice in a continuously manner, it was due to the fact that I sometimes need correction fluid whenever I commit mistakes and then switch back to my ballpen to continue writing, and if there’s an important concept, I would pick my highlighter to highlight it. It was more tiring and inefficient especially in an instances when I got the wrong item and I’ll have to search it until I find it. So then I thought, what if the functions of my ballpen, highlighter, correction fluid, and marker are all in a one item? The intention of this design is to merge the aforementioned items to make the jotting down notes easier and more efficient, thus making the action more productive and effective. So I started sketching a design for it.
About Multipurpose Pen
Multipurpose pen as the name implies, it consists of different functions. To be exact and precise, it has four functions. It can function as a ballpen, highlighter, correction fluid, or marker. The key to combine all of the function stated in the previous statement is to create a total of four equally dimensioned barrels. Barrels will serve as a container for each of the functions. The barrels can be connected or disconnected to each other. If they are connected to each other, it looks like a normal ballpen but don’t be discouraged, multipurpose pen hides many functions and possibilities. Multipurpose pen can be rearranged depending on the choice. To pick the desired function, place it to the very bottom portion.

Making Process
The design was made in Fusion 360 along with the dimensions. After that I provided an intractable for the steps. Here is the process:
3D Printing
3d print the four barrels. For the ballpen barrel, it has a dimension of 46.6 cm long. Highlighter barrel is 35 cm long, and for correction fluid and marker barrels, it has a dimension of 37 cm long. All of the four barrels has a diameter of 10.02 cm. Aside from the barrels, 3d print also the cap. The cap consists of an overall dimension of 44.85 cm in length.
Ballpen Portion
Provide all the materials for the ballpen portion such as tip, ballpen tip, and ink chamber. For the tip, it consists of an overall dimension of 11.22 cm in length and 6 cm in diameter. As for the ballpen tip, it has a dimension of 3.15 cm in length and 0.5 cm in diameter. Lastly, for the ink chamber, it has a dimension of 29.48 cm in length and 6 cm in diameter. Fill the ink chamber with ink, assemble all the parts of the ballpen and insert it in the barrel.
Highlighter Portion
For the highlighter portion provide a cotton core with a dimension of 35 cm in length and 5.5 cm in diameter. As for the tip of the highlighter, it consist of an overall dimension of 9.35 cm in length. Fill the cotton core with highlighter ink, assemble all the parts of the highlighter, then connect and insert it in the barrel.
Correction Fluid Portion
For the correction fluid portion, provide a cartridge that would serve as a storage for the correction fluid with a dimension of 37 cm in length and 3 cm in diameter. As for the tip of the highlighter, it consists of an overall dimension of 11.58 cm in length. Fill the cartridge with a correction fluid, assemble all the parts of the correction fluid, connect and insert it in the barrel.
Marker Portion
Just like in the highlighter portion, provide a cotton core that would serve as a storage for the ink of the marker with a dimension of 37 cm in length and 6 cm in diameter. As for the tip of the marker, it has an overall dimension of 8.92 cm in length and 3.87 cm in diameter. Fill it with the ink of the marker, assemble all the parts of the marker, then connect and insert it in the barrel.
Assembling
This time, all of the four barrels for ballpen, highlighter, correction fluid, and marker are already constructed, assemble it altogether since the barrels are designed to connect to each other, connect it altogether and this will be the final product.
