In these links you'll find everything you need to build this arcade electronics wise + the wood for the cabinet itself & the screen.
3D Design
Alright, let's begin! First up you get on a 3D drawing program, we used solidworks, to design the the wooden plates used to make the cabinet. depending on which laser-cutter you're using you'll need to split some parts into two pieces since they'll be to big for most laser-cutters. In the mean time you'll get started in the programming for the Raspberry Pi.
Emulation/PCB Intergration
The Aethel One uses of what's called a Raspberry Pi, specificaly the 3B variant which is used to emulate games. It does a number of things such as processing but for us it's mostly this a processor that runs our games. You plug in the HDMI into the screen, connect the usb connector which in turn, guides the led strip and sound. Getting this to work isn't to hard with some help, so here is some: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3A77Oxbm3g. To guide the LED strip and speakers you can use this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNlaj1r7NKc / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CfnXOlYiz8. Then you enter retro pie and see what's available to you. What's that? You want a different game? No problem! On the internet you'll find game files for emulation for pretty much any game! There are limits to what the Raspberri Pi can handle, but since we're building a retro arcade using old games, that won't be a problem. we found our games on https://www.emulatorgames.net/search/?kw=pac+man. Goodluck!
Laser-cutting
Lasercutting: Good, you've finished the Cad drawings for the cabinet. This part is pretty straight forwards. Make sure to save them as dxf files, since pretty much every laser-cutter needs your files in .dxf. Make sure to follow the correct operating procedures of the laser-cutter you're using and let the machine do the work.
Assembly & Assigning
Once the parts are laser-cutted you start assembling the cabinet. we used epoxy since MDF reacts nicely to it, but feel free to use whatever glue you like. When the cabinet is is drying, you can start assigning button's, since the button's have to be in place for the wiring to be connected, allowing for assigning of the button's. Once that's done you put the screen in, then each component after another with the Raspberry Pi in the middle & the wiring neatly routed.
Testing
If everything's done, the testing phase starts. Do a quality check including: does it have a neat finish? Are the buttons assigned to their respective functions? & Do the games boot properly? If all seems in order, you can let out a sigh of relief, you've done it! Your very own Aethel One. Thank you very much for your interest in Aethel and have fun gaming.
