Mosquito Repellent?

Can cat Nip kept mosquitos away? This experiment makes a repellent by adding alcohol to some crushed up cat nip mint.

Supplies

Cat nip mint

Ethanol alcohol

Source Some Catnip Mint

  1. Source some fresh cat mint - straight from the garden is best.
  2. Tear up a few cups full of leaves and place in a bowl.
  3. Munch the leaves up in your hands to get to the cat nip juice.

Mix With Alcohol

  1. Mix the munched-up leaves with some ethanol alcohol.
  2. Some ethanol-based hand sanitizer was on hand. The ethanol was separated out by adding salt and decanting off.


Put in a Bottle

  1. Leave the leaves and alcohol to soak overnight.
  2. Place the liquid into a spray bottle.

Spay on your skin to try to keep Mozie's away. It appears to work but more trials are needed to confirm for sure.

Heating With Olive Oil

Another method is to heat the leaves with olive oil.

  1. Cut up the Cat Nip Mint with a knife
  2. Put into a blender and cut up the leaves some more
  3. Add Olive oil
  4. Heat on a stove
  5. Let drain to one side, so the infused oil pools to one side of the saucepan


Pouring Into Plastic Bottle

  1. Cut off the top of an empty beer can
  2. Trim the top with a pair of scissors
  3. Pinch to top of the can to form a mini sprout
  4. Pour in the oil from the saucepan
  5. Pour from the aluminium can into a small plastic bottle
