Monster Energy Plants

If you are like me and love plants, you will love this project! I had some extra succulents and empty monster energy cans, and decided to make a pot out of the cans for the succulents. There are many positive aspects to this project, but most importantly, it is friendly to the environment!

Supplies

  • Three Monster Energy cans (you can do however many you want)
  • Can opener
  • Push pin
  • Rocks
  • Measuring cup (I used 2 tablespoons)
  • Soil
  • Succulents

Take Off the Lid

In order to insert the succulent into the empty can, we are going to have to take off the lid. To do that, carefully take a can opener and remove the top completely. You can either leave the lip of the can on, or you can take it off, whichever you prefer. I personally left the lip on two of the cans, and removed the lip on one of the cans.

Poke Holes

For this next step, you are going to need a push pin. Simply turn over the can after removing the lid, and start puncturing the bottom of the can. Make sure that the holes are big enough that water can pass through them. Make several holes for better drainage.

Add Rocks

Add a decent amount of rocks into the can to help increase the percolation rate. I filled up my can about one fourth with rocks. The higher the percolation rate, the better the drainage, due to the fact that the water will move more easily into the soil. Inserting the rocks will help increase the percolation rate.

Add Soil

After adding in the rocks, add in your soil using a measuring cup. However, don't fill your can up all the way to the top with the soil, because you need space to place your succulent or plant into the top. If you are going to be putting a succulent into your can, your soil should be rich in nutrients, and should have more of a loose, rocky texture. That is the best soil for succulents. Other plants however vary based on your plant type. (This will require research!)

Place in Your Plant!

Once all your soil is inserted into the can, you can now place your choice of plants into the top of the can! Once you have done that, you are done! Don't forget to water your plant and make sure it gets the proper amount of sunlight.
