Monkey Bread is pretty easy to make.  The recipe is not complicated, and substitutions can be made based on what you like, and what you have on hand. You can use your favorite white bread recipe, or to make it even easier you can buy a frozen loaf from your grocer.

Get All the Ingredients Ready

For the dough - your favorite white bread recipe will work. I use a bread machine, but it can be mixed in a mixer, or by hand.

Water  =  1 cup
Flour = 3 cups bread flour
Egg = 1
Margarine = 3 tbs
Sugar = 2 tbs
salt = 1 tsp
yeast = 2 tsp dry yeast
Raisins= 1 cup (optional)

Mix Your Dough

These bread machines are great

Let It Rise

This takes about 1 hour

Get Your Pan Ready

I use plenty of margarine, but pan spray will work. You want to do a good job here or it will stick in the pan. I use a tube pan, but you can use a bread loaf pan, large muffin pans, or different kinds of cake pans. Use your imagination-
it's only Monkey Bread.

Add Your Sugar

Lay the dough out on the table. Flatten it by hand, or with a rolling pin. On top put 1.5 cups of brown sugar, and 1tsp of cinnamon.

Add the Oil

I use oil 3/4 of a cup, but you can substitute margarine, or butter. Now is the time you can add raisins, chocolate chips, pecans, pineapple, etc. You get the idea.

Roll It Up

Roll the dough up, or fold it over.

Chop Chop

You can use a dull knife if you don't have a dough scraper. Don't cut your fingers, no one like blood in there monkey bread.

Put the Chopped Bread in the Pan

Try to put it carefully into the bottom, a spread it evenly.

Cover It With a Towel

AMBA0087 - Copy.JPG
Keep it in a warm place and let it rise. This will take about 1 hour depending on the room temperature.

It's Almost Ready

AMBA0089.JPG
Time to preheat your oven. 350 degrees will work.

Time to Bake

AMBA0090.JPG
Put it in the oven and let it bake about 45 minutes. The time will vary slightly, but it will firm to the touch if you push it down.

Put a Large Plate on Top

AMBA0091.JPG
Get ready to turn it over. You want to do this within about 1 minute from taking it out of the oven, or it will stick inside and be very hard to remove.

Flip It Over

Sugar is very, very very,very very HOT. Be careful or you will lose some skin.

Remove the Cover and Get Ready to Eat
