Modify Wheelbarrow Wheel
I got tired of having to pump up this old wheelbarrow wheel. Although I bought a new wheelbarrow, my wife still uses it for her gardening. After some thought, (ouch), I remember I had a pair of old grill wheels I had been saving for about five years. YES, finally! So, I went to work.
Supplies
Some of this, a little of that--Drill; Clamp; Grinder; spanner; pliers; and hammer
So I remove the old wheel assembly. Just four screws and nuts
First I needed an axle. Not wanting any out-of-pocket cost, I started rummaging. After a thorough search, I found a worn-out drill bit that fit perfectly.
I went to work, cutting it down to size. You can use the old axle as your guide.
The axle brackets were too big, so I squeeze them down to size.
I placed the two wheels together (I use two wheels. 1. for stability and 2. to bear the load). Reattach using the same screws and nuts you took off.
By the way, I used a nut and a bearing as spacers to prevent the wheels from moving around.
Viola! Wheelbarrow wheel that will never need pumping again.
Ps. You could have bought a new wheel. But where is the adventure in that?
Also, old lawnmower wheels can be used
