Model of Efficient Closet

I decided to design a better closet because my current one wasn't efficient, keeping the dimensions of 7' x 7' x 2'-2".

Supplies

Shelving that could be used to build the carcass could be bought here, link, and while I couldn't find cabinets that would fit the exact requirements many could be bought online that roughly fit it/could be modified to.

Identify the Problem

These are pictures of the current closet which has a lot of unutilized space, like on the bottom right, and there was no space for anything other than shirts and those shirts didn’t need to have so much space to hang them. So, I decided to make a closet that would use the area more efficiently and would look better.

Sketches

This the final sketch that I made which uses the majority of the space in the closet. Some of the aspects changed when I modeled it in Revit. The other photo shows an image that inspired the sketch by giving me the idea of hanging the shirts on the side of the closet since that space wasn't used much in the original closet. I also took the idea of a large central closet and removing the doors of it (which I did to take the photos in step 1 for clarity)

These photos are a picture of the Revit model, built exactly to scale of the real closet.

Components

This shows the separate components of the closet, taken out of the frame. The only thing that isn't taken out is the rod that would hold the shirts on the side, but the other 4 components are all taken out. These components could all be made with shelving to fit the exact sizing or bought from various place to an approximate sizing.

Mockup Model

I built a mockup model of the modified closet out of the cardboard to a 1 ft. to 1/2 in. scale. I didn't completely model the middle closet because of the small size, but it still shows how the space would be utilized.

The end result looks cleaner than the original as well as giving more space, and while it's simple it still uses the space efficiently. It has a consistent look to all of the different components which is something my closet doesn't have. While the closet's dimensions are big enough that it doesn't need much changing to make it functional, this new model still use the space in a way that's more than just functional.
