Mixed Fruit Halwa
We had lots of fruits lying at home, some harvested from the kitchen garden and some purchased from the local fruit shop. Most of the fruits started to over-ripen and the children could not consume all at once. So we came up with an idea of making Mixed fruit Halwa with whatever fruits available at home. The Mixed Fruit Halwa turned out to be more delicious than expected and whatever quantity we made just disappeared from the serving tray.
The Mixed Fruit Halwa can be served as dessert or as a stand alone sweet dish to kids at any time.
Please go through the instructable on how to make Mixed fruit Halwa at home
What You Need
Fruits
- One Papaya. We do not require the whole papaya, just 2 cups of pulp from the fruit
- One Apple
- One Sweet Orange
- One Pomegranate
- One Mango
- A bunch of Bananas
Dry Fruits and Nuts
- 50 grams of Raisins (Partially dried Grapes)
- 50 grams of Date fruits
- 50 grams of Cashew Nuts
Other Ingredients
- 2 cups of Sugar. We will use as required based on the sweetness of fruits
- 10 pieces of Cardamom pods
- Half a cup of Cow's Ghee (Clarified Butter)
We have not used any artificial coloring and flavouring agents in this recipe.
The following steps will guide you on how to prepare all ingredients for making the Halwa
Roast Cashew Nuts
- Break the Cashew nuts in half
- Place a small frying pan over low heat and add a drop of Ghee
- Add the Cashew nut pieces to the pan and roast to golden brown
- Remove roasted nuts from the pan to another plate
Roast Raisins
- Add the raisins to the same small frying pan
- Add a drop of ghee if required and roast the raisins over low heat
- When the raisins start to get puffed up, remove from pan and store with the roasted cashew nuts
Chop Date Fruits
- Remove the seeds from the Date fruits and chop them into small pieces
Make Cardamom Seed Powder
- Husk the cardamom pods and separate the seeds
- Using a Mortar and Pestle or any such equipment, grind the cardamom seeds into fine powder
Make Sugar Powder
- Transfer the 2 cups of sugar to a mixer grinder jar and make a fine powder
- We will use the powdered sugar as required
In the following steps we will see how to prepare the fruits for making the Halwa
Collect Papaya Pulp
- We do not need the pulp from whole papaya. Just cut about one third of the fruit from one end
- Using a spoon, remove the seeds from the cut portion
- Scrap out 2 cups of pulp using the same spoon and keep separate
- Eat the remaining fruit before it gets spoiled
Collect Sweet Orange Pulp
- Cut and remove the outer skin of Sweet orange
- Remove and separate slices from the orange
- Separate the pulp from inner skin and store in another cup.
- Here we got about 3/4th cup of pulp from one Orange
Collect Apple Pieces
- Peel off the Apple skin and cut into pieces
- Remove seeds and core from the cut pieces and keep separate
Extract Pomegranate Juice
- Cut and remove Pomegranate seeds
- Beat the seeds lightly in a mixer
- using a cheesecloth filter out the juice and keep aside
Collect Banana Slices
- Take 4 to 5 banana fruits from the bunch and peel off the skin
- Cut the unskinned fruit into slices and keep aside
Collect Mango Pulp
- We got a very large mango and we need only one cup of pulp for making Halwa
- Slice half of the mango fruit, scrap the pulp using a spoon and store in another cup
Puree the Fruit Mixer
- Now we got extracts from all fruits ready with us.
- Add all the pulps collected from different fruits and Pomegranate juice to a mixer grinder jar
- Puree the fruit mixer without adding any water and keep aside
Now all our preliminary works have been completed and we can start preparing the Mixed Fruit Halwa
Preparation Step 1
- Place a frying pan over low to medium heat and add the pureed fruit mixer to the pan
- Add 2 to 3 teaspoons of Ghee and mix well
- Stir continuously with a wooden ladle till the puree thickens
Preparation Step 2
- Now add 3/4th of the powdered sugar and another 2 to 3 teaspoons of ghee to the pan
- Mix well and test for sugar. If required add little more
- Stir continuously with the wooden ladle from outer edge to the center of the mix scrapping through the bottom. this will prevent the mixture from sticking to the pan
- If you feel that the mixture is sticking to the bottom, add teaspoons of ghee at intervals and stir well
- Once the mixture is properly done you will find ghee oozes out at edges
Preparation Step 3
- At this stage our mixed fruit halwa is almost ready
- Reduce the flame to low and add the chopped date fruits, roasted cashew nuts and roasted raisins to the pan and mix well
Remove From Pan and Serve
- Once the Mix starts to leave the pan without sticking, add the cardamom powder, mix well and remove from stove
- Our Mixed fruit Halwa is ready.
The Mixed fruit Halwa can be served as dessert or consumed at any time as desired by the kids
