Mirror, Mirror on the Wall... Bring Some Order to It All. (Wall Mirror Jewelry Storage)

Tired of tangled necklaces and mismatched earrings hiding in drawers? Transform a simple wall mirror into a stunning and practical jewelry storage cabinet! In this instructable, I’ll show you how I upcycled a vertical mirror into a sleek wall-mounted jewelry closet with laser-cut holders and custom compartments for all your shiny treasures.
Let’s get making!
Supplies
- Vertical mirror with a sturdy frame (mine is 35.5cm x 126.5cm)
- Wooden boards (1.5cm thick for structure, 5mm for back)
- Wood glue and screws
- Hinges (at least 3)
- Small wood cubes or blocks
- Plywood sheets (3mm)
- Paint or wood finish (optional)
- Tools: drill, screwdriver, saw, ruler, laser cutter (optional but helpful)
🪞The Mirror

I started with a vertical wall mirror I really liked. It had a solid frame and just the right size to become the door of a jewelry cabinet. Its outer dimensions were 35.5cm wide and 126.5cm tall.
🪵Cutting the Wood Panels

To create the box that goes behind the mirror, I cut:
- 2 side panels: 126.5cm x 8cm
- 2 top/bottom panels: 33.5cm x 8cm
- 1 back panel: 126.5cm x 36.5cm (5mm thick)
I also glued edge trim on one side of the top and bottom panels. For the side panels, I added trim on three sides—this helps create a neat frame when assembled.
🔩 Assembly Time

I used screws to assemble the wooden panels:
- First, I attached the sides to the top and bottom pieces.
- Then, I screwed on the back panel to close the box.
🔗Connecting the Mirror With Hinges

To turn the mirror into a cabinet door, I attached three metal hinges along one vertical side. One side of each hinge connects to the wooden box, and the other to the mirror’s frame.
This way, the mirror opens like a door, giving you full access to the jewelry storage inside.
🧱 Wall Mounting

To hang the cabinet, I drilled two holes in the back and used wall plugs and screws to securely mount it to the wall. Make sure it’s level and well-anchored - it’ll be holding all your favorite accessories!
💎Designing the Inside – Custom Jewelry Sections

Time to get creative! I designed most of the inner compartments using 3mm laser-cut plywood.
✨ Earring Organizer (Studs)
I made a narrow base (3cm x 33.5cm) that attaches to the cabinet wall with wooden cubes and screws. On top of this, I installed a perforated panel (also laser-cut) with holes for studs. It’s attached with two small hinges, so I can lift it easily and secure the earring backs behind it.
🪝 Long Earrings Bar

For dangle earrings, I inserted a horizontal wooden rod that rests on two U-shaped holders. These holders let you remove the rod easily to add or remove earrings. Just slide it in from the top.
📿 Necklace & Bracelet Rack

I designed curved wooden holders to keep necklaces and bracelets untangled. Each one is 33.5cm wide (to fit the interior width) and secured with wooden cubes. The curved shapes help separate each piece of jewelry and keep them in place.
💍Mirror Back Storage

To use every bit of space, I painted the back of the mirror (which had a thick cardboard panel) and added more curved holders—this time smaller, perfect for rings, thin bracelets, and even extra necklaces. I also added little wood cubes to slightly elevate the holders from the surface, giving the jewelry room to hang freely.
💬 Final Thoughts

I absolutely love how functional and personal this jewelry mirror turned out! It keeps everything tidy, visible, and beautifully displayed. Plus, since I designed the compartments to fit my needs, it works perfectly for my collection.
Hope this inspires you to make your own Jewelry Mirror Closet! Customize the inside with sections that work best for you—and don’t forget to share your version.
Happy making! 💫
