Minion Upcycling

Upcycling is a fun way to help the environment. The process of upcycling takes old useless things or trash and makes it into something new and usable. My project takes an old easter egg and converts it into a new and cute little minion that can be used as an accessory, such as a key chain. This can also be used as a tree ornament for the festive holidays all you have to do is decorate it differently. The making of the minion egg is inexpensive costing at less than $5. All you need is an old yellow plastic egg, strong glue, googley eyes, felt or foam, blue nail polish, and a permanent marker.

Painting the Egg

For this step take the bottom of the egg, if the top part or the egg and the bottom of the egg are attached just split them apart and cut off the part sticking out, and make two rectangles on either side of the egg: and these will be the arms. Then get the nail polish and paint a light thin coat and wait for it to dry. After the first coat has dried go over and paint a second coat and this step is done.

Adding Arms and Headband

Get the felt/ black foam and cut a somewhat half oval to be the gloves of the minion. The half ovals have to be the same size as the rectangles. Add strong glue to the are and paste down and wait for the glue to dry. Then do the same for the other arm. After that make larger half ovals for the feel or boots. Glue on shoe directly to the bottom of the plastic egg and wait for the glue to dry. Then add the second overlapping the first. Next cut a thin piece of felt/foam thats long enough to wrap around the top of the egg. After cut add glue to the thin strip and start to place on the egg. Cut off any excess felt and wait for the glue to dry.

Making Goggles and Adding Googley Eyes

This is the step for the aluminum foil. On a small piece of aluminum foil place an eye and trace around. Do this for two eyes depending on how many eyes you want your minion to have. Then cut around the traced circle and glue to the felt/foam that was glued in the previous step. After the glue has dried glue the eyes to the circle traced. And the eyes are done.

Finishing Touches

Now your minion should be done or at least for the most part. To add more to your cute minion draw a few hair stands on the and add the pocket to your minion on its chest. You can also draw a mouth on your minion, whether its a small smile or a minion with his tongue sticking out. You can also make this into an accessary by poking a hole at the top and sticking a string through to hang on a bookbag or purse. Additionally it can be transformed into a keychain by taking the parts off an old lanyard. With these parts the minion can also be hanged on a Christmas tree and look great. Sorry i don't have a picture of my finished minion but this is what it is supposed to look like in the end.
