Found this S shaped root on my morning walk route and struck an idea to create a table lamp with it. For its base I picked a black lava stone which is very common around Kaliyasot Dam, Bhopal

Supplies

Tools required:

  • Clear spray varnish
  • Brush for cleaning the root and stone
  • Drill to make a hole in stone
  • Rice LED light
  • A Bulb which has filament removed

Wash and clean the stone and root and dry them. Apply a clear coat of varnish and repeat this process three four times.

Fix the Root on the Black Lava Stone Base

Decide which way it will look elegant. Drill a hole using stone or concrete bit and fix a wooden dowel (I used an Ice Cream stick) in the stone upto one inch depth. Keep the dowel one inch out side the stone and cut rest of it. Make a hole in the root at appropriate location and fix it on stone.

Hollow a Bulb and Rice LED Light

Hollow a bulb by removing the filament. Tie a fine copper wire to hand it from the root. Drop a rice LED light and hide its battery behind the stone or the root. The Minimalist Lamp is ready!
