Making a Miniature Wax Comb

This is a short tutorial for surfers on how to create a mini wax comb that will fit into your leash strap so when your wax flattens out you won't have to resort to using your finger nails like an animal...

Cut Down Store Bought Wax Comb

Get your wax comb that you purchased at the surf shop and draw out some cut lines that are about 2 inches long and 3/4 inch wide, leave the teeth of the comb along one of the longer sides, then take your nearest handsaw and cut off the larger portion of the comb so that you have the 2x1 inch piece.

Scoring the Mini Comb

The next step is to prepare the comb to receive the adhesive which will bind the velcro to it, in order to do this take an exacto knife and score one side of the plastic with a cross hatch pattern.

Next find a small piece of velcro, it does not matter if it is hook or loop velcro, cut a 1/2 inch by 2 inch strip of the velcro so that it fits nicely over the scored part of the comb. Then using a quality waterproof adhesive (I prefer to use Seam Grip, but something like E6000 will work as well) apply a small amount to the comb and place the velcro on it, place a small weight on top to hold the velcro flat and let it cure for 24 hours.

Testing It Out

Pronto! now you can see how the Mini Comb fits securely into you leash strap, ready to be used. When there is a lull in the sets just whip it out to make your wax nice and sticky so your board sticks to your feet when your busting those sick airs!
