Miniature SpongeBob Pineapple House Interior & Exterior | Handmade Model With Clay, Household Materials & Lighting

I’ve always loved SpongeBob the characters, the humor, and especially his pineapple house. There was something about that house that made me wish I could have one of my own, even if just a tiny version.
So when I got the chance to make a miniature, I didn’t have to think twice. I instantly knew I wanted to bring the pineapple house to life, the way I’ve always imagined it not just from the outside, but with a cozy inside too.
In this Instructable, I’ve tried to recreate that same kind of coziness using clay and a lot of love for the world of SpongeBob.
Supplies
Most of the materials I used while making the base structure like the paper coffee cup and a plastic cup, were easily found at home, but you can always try different techniques or materials based on what you have.
Base structure
- Paper coffee cup
- Plastic cup
- Epoxy clay
- Glue
- Scissors
Painting & Detailing Tools
- Acrylic Paints and paint brushes
- Ruler (Scale )
- Toothpick (to add details)
- Varnish
Lighting
- 3V LED light
- Duracell (CR2016) cell
- Clear Plastic discs (cut from packaging) used for adding light diffusion
- Cello-tape
Rough Sketch Plan

This is the initial rough sketch of SpongeBob’s pineapple house, which I’ve divided into two tiers. The ground floor includes various small elements and furniture, while the second tier features a light to add depth and warmth. The overall height of the miniature is approximately 10–11 cm.
Building the Base Structure

Once the rough sketch was ready I started building the structure. I used two main parts:
- The base was made using a paper coffee cup
- The upper tier was made using a plastic cup
I applied epoxy clay to both cups to give them texture and a more solid, pineapple-like appearance. After covering each part in clay and letting it slightly set, I carefully joined the two tiers together using more clay, making sure they looked like one continuous structure.
I also cut out the space for the door and made small holes in the clay for the windows while it was still soft.
POV: One of the best things about epoxy clay is that It never lets me procrastinate. Once you mix it, the clock starts ticking you have to sculpt before it hardens. Probably the only thing that bosses me around ;)
Once the structure was fully shaped, I let it dry overnight to ensure it hardened completely. I also checked for any cracks or weak spots during as the base structure needed to be completely solid before continuing.
Miniature: Bed

I made the bed by dividing it into separate parts like the base, headboard, and pillow and let them dry individually. Once dried I joined them all together using glue.
Miniature: Sponge Bob

To bring the house to life, I had to add its most important resident SpongeBob himself! I sculpted a tiny version of him using epoxy clay, shaping the body, arms, legs, and face details separately. The step-by-step process is shown in the photos.
Creating the Ground Base & Pineapple Crown

To organize the layout inside the house, I made a disk-shaped base where all the miniatures like the bed and furniture would be placed. I marked the positions lightly with a pencil to clear the mess in my head and visualize where everything would go. I also took measurements of the pineapple house to make sure everything fit correctly on the base. I also made the crown of the pineapple house, and since there weren’t any exact measurements for it, I just went with the flow while shaping it.
Making All the Miniatures

In this step, I created all the little elements that make SpongeBob’s house feel like home. Apart from the bed and SpongeBob himself I also made:
- Gary the Snail – SpongeBob’s pet
- Bedside lamp
- Photo frame
- TV
- Small potted plant
- Floor mat
- Drawer
- Blue chimney pipe
- Door
Painting Everything

Before painting, I applied white Gesso (WHITE COLOR)to all the larger clay models. This step is important because without it, the acrylic colors don’t show up as clearly.
After that I painted them using acrylic colors.
After the paint dried, I applied a varnish coat to protect the colors and keep them intact.
Also I’ve mentioned the measurements of each miniature in the images, but I’m also listing them here for clarity.
Measurements:
- Gary the Snail – SpongeBob’s pet : 1cm
- Bedside lamp: 1cm
- Photo frame: 1.2 cm
- TV:1.5cm
- Small potted plant:1cm
- Floor mat: 1.2cm
- Drawer :1cm
- Blue chimney pipe: 2.5 cm
- Door: 2.2cm
- SpongeBob: 2cm
- Bed: 2.3 cm
- Pineapple house:10 cm
Making a Personalized Photo Frame

To add a fun and personal touch I made a tiny photo frame featuring the Instructables Robot and a Minion together as friends. I took a print in sticker form of the appropriate size. I really liked this idea because it adds something playful from my side. It also made the miniature feel more personalized and meaningful.
Assembling Everything

In this step I glued all the miniatures to their respective places on the ground base and along the inner walls of the pineapple house. This brought everything together and made the interior feel complete and well-set.
Lighting & Visual Effects

For the lighting I used a 3V LED light and attached it to a Duracell battery using tape. To enhance the glow and create a colorful effect I made plastic sliders using the transparent discs I mentioned earlier.
I first took the exact measurements of the upper tier, and based on that I cut the sliders to fit perfectly. I then painted them in different vibrant colors so that when the light passes through, it creates a cool and playful visual effect inside the house.
Mamma Mia! the Pineapple House Is Ready!

And here it is my miniature version of SpongeBob’s pineapple house inside and out!
This project took me several days to complete, and though it wasn’t always easy, seeing it all come together was honestly overwhelming in the best way. Every little detail felt like a part of my imagination coming to life.
I genuinely loved working on this it brought back childhood memories, gave me space to be creative, and made me smile throughout. Being able to share it through this contest makes it feel even more special.
