I made a miniature model globe!

Supplies

To make your own, you will need: A coat hanger (or other thin rod/dowel), a 2" x 3" block of your choice of wood, a 1" diameter foam ball, acrylic paint (green, blue, white), and a paintbrush.

Make the Globe

Take your 1" diameter foam ball and drill a hole the size of your hanger/dowel.

Using the acrylic paint and paintbrush, paint the ball blue and let it dry. Once dry, paint on the continents with green and white paint.

Make Axis for Globe

Cut a 3" long piece from the coathanger. Sand coating off to reveal shiny metal. Bend at a slight angle to prevent the globe from falling.

Making the Base

Cut a 2" x 2.5" ellipse into the wood block. Drill a hole the diameter of the coat hanger piece about 1/4" from the open edge of the block. Cut through the top and bottom pieces of the stand.

Assembly

Insert the piece of coathanger into the top hole of the wood, but not entirely through. Insert the globe into the negative space of the wood and feed the coathanger through. The coat hanger's bend should create a slight angle for the globe and prevent it from sliding down.
