Miniature Books

Hey everyone! I was snowed in this weekend so I thought I'd do a tutorial. I wrote this up because there aren't very many miniature book tutorials on the internet. Let's do this!

Here are the things you'll need to make these little cuties:

-Paperboard (like a Pop Tarts or Famous Amos cookie box)

-Fabric

-Cute paper

-Mod Podge

-Scissors

-Pencil

-Paintbrush

-Glue stick

-Regular glue

-Something to glue on

-White or colored paper

-Paper cutter or page template and ruler

-Eraser

-Needle and thread

-Binder clip

-Craft knife

-White paint

Grab your cardboard, pencil, and ruler. Decide what size you want your mini book (or books) to be and draw out your covers and spine. You'll want to do a couple of layers because paper board is kind of thin and flimsy. I did 3 layers here because the paper board I used was thinner than usual. Cut them out. Gently score your pieces on the printed side and glue together.

Glue your cover pieces to the white paper and paint with the white paint.

Now grab your cover and glue it to your fabric and cut it out, leaving enough fabric to be folded over. Fold and glue the edges down and let dry.

Grab your paper cutter and your paper and cut strips that are slightly smaller than your book's cover. If you don't have a paper cutter, then you can use your ruler and pencil and cut the strips with your craft knife. Just be careful and don't cut yourself. Cut into rectangles.

Fold your rectangles in half and stack them. I do groups of 6. These little books don't take a lot of pages, so 6 groups of 6 works perfectly.

Whoops, bad pun alert. ;)

Now gather your signatures together and clip the open end (the end that isn't folded) with a binder clip. Draw several lines down the folded side.

Now thread your needle and begin sewing your signatures.

Stack them together again and clip both ends that aren't folded with binder clips. Paint the folded side with Mod Podge. Let dry. 3 coats should be fine.

Nothing really matters... LOL :P

Cut your end papers and glue one side of one to the page block. Repeat with the other end paper and then glue the other loose side into your book. Repeat with the second end paper and enjoy your little book! :)

Phew! Now you're done! If you like you can add a loop of ribbon before you add the pages to make a necklace. A shelf full of these would make a cute decoration too. The sky's the limit here.
