MiniCam: a Mobile Spy Camera

Materials

  • For this project you will need:
    A Mini RC Car (Buy here.)

  • A Spy Gear Panosphere 360 (Buy here.)

  • A Hot Glue Gun (Buy here, or at your local hobby store.)

  • A Small Phillips Screwdriver (Buy here, or at your local hobby store.)

Preparing the MiniCam

Use the screwdriver to remove all four screws on the back of the Panosphere 360, and all three screws on the underside of the RC car. Take the cover of the RC car off, and set it aside. Remove the Panosphere's "logic" board completely from both sides of its casing. To do this you will need to remove a small amount of glue around the microphone. You can do this with your fingernail, or some other small, reasonably sharp object. Glue the Panosphere's battery to its logic board. Next, glue the back of the microphone to the logic board as well, so as to secure it in place.

Making the MiniCam

Bend the RC car's antenna into a curve, so that it will be easier to glue the camera board in place. Put just enough hot glue onto the car's logic board to secure the camera's logic board in place. Press the camera's logic board firmly into the hot glue, making sure the camera can still move freely. Lastly, glue the actual camera securely to the front bumper of the car. Charge both your camera and your car, turn them both on, and then launch into the unknown!

Admittedly, this project has its downsides. First, it has a short battery-life. Second, it has a short range. Third, it cannot run on "rough" terrain. But, regardless of downsides, anything you choose to enjoy can be enjoyed!

Update: To improve the battery life, you may want to add a small solar panel, resistor, and diode. This should maintain the battery's charge when using the MiniCam. If I'm mistaken, please comment below and help me make my instructables better. Thanks
