Mini Zen Garden

My mini zen garden for my desk

I have always wanted to have a Zen garden. The one with rake and stones which can be arranged and spirals can be made. So I reused extra scraps from other projects to make a smaller one. This does not take much space and feels soothing playing with it.

Supplies

We need

A wooden board for the base.

Wooden batons for the sides.

Wooden dowel and bamboo skewers for the rake

Stones from the beach

Sand (colored if you prefer) I used white.

Cut the batons to size and glue them onto the base board to make the tray. You can use nails if you want to make a larger one. I just used white wood glue and some weight (books) to hold everything till it dry.

Stand for the Base

Used pieces from the left over baton as feets. Just moved the feets little to the inside as this created a floating effect for the tray.

Make the Rake

For the rake I used mini dowel from my other project. Marked equidistant and drilled holes. The skewer was little thick for the holes, so I stripped them vertically into 4. That was easy as bamboo strips easily with no hassle. After gluing everything and drying, I used a nail cutter to trim the rake to size.

Assemble

You are technically done with the project. Fill the tray with sand. And start playing. Arrange the stones. Balance them over each other. Arrange the sand around the stones with the tiny rake. Enjoy.
