Mini - Painting Using Picture
A simple, minimal wall hanging to commemorate one of your favorite photos into a piece of memorabilia.
Supplies
- Image Printout
- Protective Surface (you don't want marker on your tabletop!)
- Tape
- Baking Paper
- Pencil
- Fabric (Hessian)
- Small Wooden Ring (You can find these in craft stores or macramé kits)
- Scissors
- Sharpie
- White - out Marker
- Hot Glue - Gun
Selecting Image
For your first wall - hanging, select an image with minimal outlines and features. For this, I chose an image of my fish, as I could easily trace it. Once you have selected an image, add it to a word document, and print it out.
Tracing Your Image
Take your printed image, trim if necessary, and tape to a smooth surface. Then place your baking paper on top (make sure it covers the entire image), and tape to the surface. Using a pencil, trace the main features (you can add detail later) onto the baking paper.
Tip:
- Trace a few times to ensure it transfers properly.
Prepping Your Frame
Place your wooden ring onto your fabric, and trace the outside with your pencil. Cut out carefully with scissors.
Tracing Your Image Onto the Fabric
Place the traced baking paper on top of your round of fabric, line it up, and tape onto your surface (make sure the penciled side is facing the fabric. Using your pencil, "colour" the outline so it transfers onto the fabric.
Tip:
- Don't be afraid to go "too" hard, you want your outline to be transferred properly.
Colouring Your Image
Using a sharpie, trace the main outline of your image. Then colour the image in completely. Use a white out marker to highlight additional details (for me it was the scales, fins, and eye), and your image is now ready to be framed.
Tip:
- Tape your fabric down so it doesn't move while you colour.
Framing Your Image
Using a hot glue gun, carefully glue the fabric round to your wooden ring, ensuring the fabric is properly centered.
Tip:
- Glue half at a time, to ensure your image is aligned.
Finishing Touches
Trim excess fabric with scissors as needed, and hang your mini - painting anywhere you like.
